You only have two days left. Shame you will miss Christmas.

There is no quick and fast rule for this unfortunately. Depending on your age if you were to give up your lungs may be able to repair themselves within a year.

As an expert in the effects of tobacco smoking I can tell you that smoking 10 cigarettes a day loses you 1 hour of life expectation. That is fact, not theory. In 24 years you lose 1 year's life in 48 years 2 years life. On top of that you have all the related illnesses to yourself and others through passive smoking, the fact that you, your clothes, your breath, your car and house will stink and you'l bee poorer for the sake of a disgusting and loathsome habit. Nicotine is a powerful narcotic and many smokers are so hooked they cannot stop. As a result they come up with all kinds of reasons and excuses to smoke but, deep down, they know they are drug addicts. Stop now and your lungs will start to recover, If it's only 10 a day for a short time, then in 10 years your lungs will be near enough in the condition of a non-smoker. Part of my job was assessing smokers for insurance purposes hence my knowledge of the way they shorten your life. This means that insurance premiums on life policies are more expensive for smokers as they die sooner and the policy has to pay out.

Here's the deal: About 18% of heavy smokers end up getting lung cancer. That might not seem very high (??about 1 out of 5), but there is a much higher susceptibility in certain people due to their genetics. So there's no way of knowing if that is you. There is genetic research underway now to figure all of this out and identify those who are higher-risk for lung CA.

Healing of the lung tissues begins as soon as 30 minutes after the last cigarette. Therefore, the sooner you quit completely, the more quickly you will become healthier.

You've been smoking for 15 years. You don't state your current age, but you could be fine 10 years, 15 years, or even 20 years from now. But the effects of smoking are cumulative, and you could end up with problems way down the line, like in your 60s or 70s. And it's not just lung cancer that is the risk - emphysema, heart disease, strokes, hypertension, are all associated with smoking. The research is out there. You don't need us to tell you this.

Quit as soon as you can. Get the patch if you need it, use the gum, see a doctor about smoking cessation programs - just do it as soon as possible. Good luck!

Well definitely, smoking is a big risk factor for a lot of cancers, especially lung cancer.
But you are more at risk if you smoke and:
1. live a sedentary or inactive lifestyle (or you don't exercise at all)
2. don't follow a balanced diet
3. have a family history of cancer
4. always end up drunk

My advice is you have to think about quitting as soon as possible. Exercise regularly, eat lots of healthy foods, and drink enough water everyday.
Good luck!

I was a 2 pack a day smoker for 25 years. I now have scarring in both lungs. I am on 2 inhalers and 1 oral medication as well as an emergency inhaler. Go to your doctor and have your lungs x-rayed and take a Pulmonary Function Test. The PFT is to test to see how well your lungs are functioning. You'll feel better after you see your doctor.

when you smoke a cigarette you damage the cells in your lungs. the other cells around it will then divide to replace the lost ones. eventually the cells will make a mistake and will continue to divide causing a tumour. this could be benign (encased in a sack cancerous but unable to spread) or malignant (cancerous and able to spread) if caught soon enough it can be treated but if not you could die. this is absolutely inevitable if you smoke it just depends if something else kills you before you get it. sorry if this is depressing but it is the medical truth (ask your doc) Ive put it in the simplest terms I could. I did this the other week in health studies and it has caused many ppl in my class to quit. (I'm studying to be a nurse)

ps. 85% of lung cancers are found in smokers!!!!

look at it this way, all the non smokers will moan at you but there forgetting if everybody stopped smokeing think how much income tax they would pay, the goverment makes more money off of cigs in tax than anything else so if this was taken away, everybody would suffer with higher taxes as the goverment would have to recoup there lost money some how, this is something non smokers should bear in mind when whinging on about smokers, when your time is up its up no matter what you do, you could stop smokeing next week but you could get run over the next day, what ever happened to freedom of choice

Feck the begrudgers. My grandad smoked 30 woodbine a day and lived to the ripe age of 84. My way of thinking is, if we are going to be afflicted by a debilating disease, it will happen anyway. When you visit a doctor the first question is Do you smoke?. They are somewhat taken aback if you say no. Smoke and as the saying goes----be damned. Merry Xmas.

You know the answer!

However...........do you drive a car? If you do...did you know you are more likely to inhale carcenogenic/cancer causing agents from filling up with unleaded fuel!

Recommended refuelling practice for unleaded fuel: I'm not joking! Remove filler cap and commence refuelling. Stand at least ONE METER from refilling point! ????????? and avoid inhalation of vapour.
