With so many holidays this time of year, Happy Holidays fits them all. Why not just bury the hatchet on this and realize not
everyone is christian or catholic? Its takes no more energy to say happy holidays that it does merry christmas. The only diffrence
is, it says you are open to the idea that you are keeping other
peoples beliefs in mind, and not being selfish because you think
christmas is the only thing going on.

I think this controversy is the biggest farce I've ever heard in my life. No one should be offended by either "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays." If someone wishes you a Merry Christmas, then obviously this is the holiday they celebrate at this time of year and are basically wishing for your day to be as bright as theirs. And if someone says "Happy Holidays" then they are observant that there are many celebrations at this time of year - Christmas, Hannukah, New Year's, Kwanza - and are providing best wishes for the many celebrations that take place at this time of year. Personally, I just like to think of this as a season of caring and sharing, but with everyone taking offense at whatever holiday greeting one chooses to use, it's hard to see it that way.

To much emphasis is place on being "religiously correct" to the person you are greeting. I always say Merry Christmas to everyone. Culturally, this is the holiday that I normally celebrate on December 25. If that is not the holiday you the person I am greeting celebrates then I am ok with you telling me that you only celebrate Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or just the joy that the winter cold brings. Next time I run into that person, I will say matching holiday greeting, however in return I would just wish for the person to remember that I am celebrating Christmas.

Its all in good spirits. Say what you're comfortable with. I've wished people Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy Hanukkah - whatever. I don't think most people get offended if you are wishing them well.

No i think that we all should say Merry Christmas if we are Christians to other Christians and as for the Jews then we should be polite and respect their religious beliefs and say Happy Holidays or Happy Hanukkah to them!!

You should say whatever it is that you celebrate. I myself celebrate Christmas but I have many jewish friends and I have asked them this same question. All of them agree that they would take no offense in someone wishing them a Merry Christmas even though they celebrate Hanukkah. I think as long as the person is not a real jerk they shouldn't get mad if they celebrate something else. You should be proud of your beliefs and you have every right to show them, as much as they have a right to thiers.
