Oh, honey, I wish I knew you.
YOU NEED TO TELL SOMEONE.
There has got to be some teacher or counselor at your school that you could go to--ask your friends. Even if the teacher doesn't "understand," s/he will know that this is serious and will be able to suggest what to do next.
You will have to tell your parents eventually, but it might be easier to tell someone who isn't so emotionally involved with you first and let them help you tell your parents.
Because you are probably on vacation from school right now, please call your doctor or a clinic. Eating disorders and cutting are related--if you get help for one, they will help you with the other. You are going to have to do this eventually; please do it now.
Be aware of the fact that holidays can be really stressful, and make a real effort to be around positive, caring people.
Here are some US hotlines--they might know who to call in your town:
National Teen Emergency Hotline: 1-800-448-3000
Hotline for Teens who Cut: 1-800-366-8288
(If you aren't in the US, write back and someone will be able to give you numbers for your country.)
There ARE people out the who understand, and there are even more people who care about you.
Good luck--and remember about hanging out with positive people.

Jessica,
Cutting is a form of self harm to say the least. To my understanding, it is out of you not having control in your life. Eating disorder for the same reason. You can control what goes in your mouth even when you can't control anything else in your life. Cutting is so harmful, and I understand it is to release pain that you feel. There are other ways to deal with these problems honey. You seem to dislike yourself, poor self-esteem. You would probably benefit from going to inpatient facility. My daughter is 16 and she sounds like you, and that is what I had to do. Twice. And she is doing very well. And I put her in a different school and is making the honor role. Do what is best for you, even though you might not like yourself at this time, no more cutting and eat something, before people force you to go somewhere for help. You need to tell your parents too. Good Luck, and life is about constant changes and how you deal with them or react to these changes. Life won't always be this hard..... promise honey.

I used to use a paperclip too and whatever else was sharp. It was a great release for me at the time. You need to go get some kind of help to learn how to express the feelings that hurt and work on some issues. One night I started cutting and I couldnt stop so my parents had to take me to the hospital. I really needed to go and I was able to address a lot of issues. Try telling someone you are comfortable with so they can help you find a doctor if you feel like you cant do it on your own. Its ok to get that help and all this crap will stop. Just make that first step.

I use to do that also.I went thru a hard time when I was in middle school.I ran away twice and I tried to O.D on random pills. It helped me alot when a guy I went to church with was there for me.Him and I confided in each other with our problems.I would say look for someone who has that same problem and talk things out and help each other. As for your friends, their probably scared senseless, cause they may think that they may tell you the wrong thing and you might go and do it even more.Your at the age where everything seems to be going wrong, but trust me things will get better..I went thru my "suicidal"stage for 2 years...I started when I was 14 and I am now 16 and I am better all I did was I found something that made me really happy, and it kept me from getting depressed or to the point where I wanted to cut myself. So but just keep your head up and stay strong because I know you can do this...

You would be amazed at how many people cut themselves. Its good that you are trying to find a way to stop. Since your teachers and frineds don't understand this, you might try talking to a counselor at your school - they have seen this before - or talk to your parents, or at least tell your parents that you would like to make an appointment with your doctor.
It helps to talk with others who have dealt with the same thing. Here's a teen website for people to discuss cutting:
http://groups.teenhelp.org/forumdisplay.php?f=25
. . . And another website with info:

For you, this is a way to let go of something.....when you cut yourself...it's a release...almost feeling free! To cause yourself pain.......it feels good to almost punish yourself.....you have a need to feel in control. The same thing with your eating disorder.....you feel in control when you don't eat or however you do it......ask yourself.....and don't listen to anyone that looks at you or doesn't want to listen to you...this is a real problem and you are a real person!!! Ask yourself...what is it that I need to feel in control of? Perhaps your parents.or friends.....but when one cuts themselves...you are punishing yourself sweetie...the rush you get when you feel pain....and the rush to take the pain when you do cut yourself...this is a PROBLEM and will not go away on its own....your self worth is more than that......find something else ...perhaps kick boxing or a punching bag...something that will enable you to "focus" and get out the anger and pinned up energy! You'll feel tired when you get it out and do this.......but please leave your body alone! You are worth more than that! It might also give you strength to reach out to other girls that are going through this as well.....and you can be an instrument to them sweetie! Take care!!!!

first off i want to point out i dont mean any of this as an insult or to be demeaning in any way. with that said, you need help hun. you have a couple mental problems that that you need professional help with. tell your parents whats going on and that you want to fix the problems. i know it will be hard to do but talk to what ever parent your closer to(mom or dad). tell them that you need to get some help with this and its not just something that will always go away with time. i have gone through this with my x before and it could be a life long problem if not taken care of.
