First, wash and peel the outside layer of skin, the dry stuff, from the clove. Cut the top 1/8 inch off the top, the bottom doesn't really matter. Place clove in the center of a piece of tinfoil, place a drop or two of extra virgin olive oil on and wrap the clove up. Place the clove or cloves into the middle rack of the oven at about medium heat for 20-30 minutes. Check them every so often to make sure they don't burn or get darker than light tan. Let them cool off and mash them up and spread away.

Rub some oil and spices on a whole unpeeled garlic clove and wrap it in foil. Bake it about an hour, or until it gets soft. You can peel it first if you prefer, but either way will work.

Yes cut the top off, yes wrap in foil, and season with salt and pepper if you like. 350 degrees is fine, depends on how large your cloves are for time. Elaphant garlic is usually 30 minutes on 350 in a convection oven.

Cut the top off - don't peel & drizzle a little olive oil over it, wrap in aluminum foil & bake at 350 for an hour. Test for softness, if not soft 7 buttery enough continue to bake testing every 15 mins.
