This is what I tell my family "you're awfully brave buying something for yourself so close to Christmas, what if someone already bought for you?"

Try telling her that she should wait until after christmas that way if someone gets her a gift card to the store she can buy the book then instead of spending her cash now.

Don't tell her let her buy one. The one she buys will not be signed by the author so she will still like yours better. She can take hers back and get her money back.. If you try to tell her not to get it then she will know something is going on.

Just let her buy it. Then secretly take the receipt and take the book back yourself before she reads it or anything. Christmas is only 3 days away, you should have no problem doing this.
Good luck.

If yours is signed don't stop her. That way she can put the book you got her in storage (an autographed book is a collectors item) and read the one she buys!

I can't think of any way to stop her from purchasing one so you might just have to give your mom her gift early.
