Does anyone know if the encore 300 win mag is a good choice for an elk hunting barell and how devestating is the recoil with the flextech stock.

i cant tell you about the stock ,yes 300 win mag is good for elk,i have the 26"heavy barrell for mine and use it on whitetails and black bears,my stock is walnut, the recoil is very manageable because my gun is pretty heavy it also tends to go up when fired not straight back, but the only time that you actually feel recoil is when sighting in and practice, but then its not that bad for me,but im 6' tall and weigh 225# you might feel it a little more if you are smaller, get the barrell, you will not be disappointed.

the encore is a great gun
superb trigger
i have killed several elk with a 300 win mag
my encore is .243 so i cant speak what i don't know but as far as the action and caliber you have a real winner.
my only caution would be to have a scope with a pretty long eye relief and if possible start out hand loading on the light end of the scale until you are confy
i have never felt recoil from any gun while shooting game

I own a t c in 300 win mag,it is a good choice for elk or white tail far as that goes, the recoil not bad in the new flexteck stock it is even less.

With the stock you mentioned, plus a limbsaver recoil pad, you would be able to compare the recoil to that of a heavy 30-06. .300winmag is a great choice for ANY of North America's big game animals.

I do not own one yet, but hope to soon. I have shot one, its an awesome gun, but yes it does have a bit of recoil, I would not say it is excessive though, its not as bad as my Winchester model 70 .300 Utra mag.

It's a good choice. I think you can handle the recoil o.k.
