Certain things have to happen before Jesus will come. If you are very interested, there's plenty to read in the bible.
The bible tells us "no one will know the day, nor the hour". It helps us to stay on our toes at all times, instead of waiting for signs and then getting our acts in gear.
It also says that every generation thinks it will be in their time, so we'll see. It could be in ours. We're wicked enough, thats for sure.

Its not like he is going to write in the sky the specific date and time, because honestly, then everybody would just be horrible people till the last minute, and then redeem themselves.

No..that's the sign that he's left. the sign will be much nagging from Mary to get out of the house and get a job. This will be followed by much groaning and whining as he puts down his PS2.
Some disagree and state there will also be statements to the effect that why can't he meet a nice jewish girl? or get a real job like that nice rosenberg boy who's now an investment banker?
