I am a working mom right now, but am planning on quitting my job to stay home (again) with my kids. Quitting this job means giving up our health insurance, I can probably get it thru the state. My fiance is starting working with another company that will allow him to work from home, he is a computer programmer, which will take time away from the kids, which is why i want to quit working, he will be doing two jobs one of which pays more than mine.

I am just wondering how many people here are without insurance and how do you handle it? I have never been without insurance, whether its from work or state subsidized.

To not have insurance puts your children at great risk should anything happen to you or them. One of you should keep a job which offers insurance coverage for the family. Otherwise, buy insurance on your own to cover major illness or accidents.

The only problem I see with this is that you are not married to your partner. I know many couples who do not marry so they can milk the system...free or low cost insurance through the state, free of low tuition fees.

If you do everything legal and state that you live with someone who is providing an income I see no problem with a state sub insurance. It is so great to stay home with the children.

I realize you're quitting to spend time with your kids but health insurance is BEYOND important...do you want good health insurance or state provided..we pay an arm and a leg for our insurance but the truth is...my daughter is covered for everything and we never pay out of pocket for ANYTHING...we dont even have a copay and I get to stay in the hospital for 5 days after delivering naturally and 9 if I deliver c-section...i'm sorry...thats worth more to me than anything in the world...knowing my baby is taken care of god forbid she gets sick...i would hire a babysitter just to spend some time with them and keep my insurance and extra money...

You can buy insurance. I buy my own through blu cross blue shield. It's fairly reasonable, but more expensive than getting it from work. Insurance is important. I still owe the hospital tons of money from when I was with out insurance.

Never go without insurance. Very bad idea. You can be ruined if anything ever happend. There are plenty of affordable plans available privately.
