According to a Department of Justice report, nearly 50% of all drug arrests are Marijuana related.

A few States have medical marijuana laws, and some are basically decriminalizing possession of personal use amounts.

With the CIA reported involvement in the smuggling of the hard drugs, the "War on Drugs" has shifted to marijuana. Ridiculous but true.

This country wastes SEVEN BILLION dollars a year on marijuana interdiction. Thankfully many places are persecuting less marijuana offenses because the jails are already full. Mandatory sentencing and a ridiculous prohibition on marijuana use have contributed to this. Less than half of the jail/prison population are violent offenders.

The US has a higher percentage of it's population in jail than any other industrial nation in the world.

Hopefully we will wake up before the War on Drugs and the War on Terror bankrupt us and we become the newest third world country. We NEED to change our laws.

Corruption is a much more serious problem, but is ignored, because the lawmakers are involved to their necks. Any one with questions about that should have been watching when the Enron and Abramoff scandals hit the press. How many politicians returned money?

Many police officers do just this, because of the time involved in the arrest procedure and necessary paper work involved. If the search the person and finds just a couple of roaches on them, they most likely will confiscate it, and given them a warning that if they get caught again, then they are going to jail. Technically , they did break the law, but there are some laws which are overlooked by people enforcing the law. A perfect example is jaywalking. Cops do it too.

As with other groups, there are crooked police. Don't count on one turning a blind eye. If he's crooked, he'll probably want something in return. It's called extortion. It's also illegal. Such officers usually don't last long. They get fired and arrested. There is a small and decreasing group of people who can legally smoke "pot" for medicine. They applied to the federal government during the Reagan administration. That program has since been discontinued, but the people were allowed to continue due to grandfather clauses. You aren't one of them, so don't use illegal drugs.

possession of a controlled substance is a criminal offense. with that being said there is a limit in which law enforcement has to enact a physical arrest. For example F.S.S. 893.13 (6)b, states possession of less than 20 grams of cannabis is a criminal offense but is listed as a misdemeanor. Which means law enforcement has the discretion in acting in a physical arrest or confiscation or ror (released with a court date). If it is over 20 grams a physical arrest has to be made. So it would depend on the amount and the type of officer. As for any officer turning a blind eye to it, I would say no. And as for the others that posted that they know dope head officers that steal evidence and smoke it, I would say quit smoking yourself your killing brain cells!!!!

Try Alaska I think they have a personal use statute. But to the poster above the cop doesnt break the law by confiscating the pot and letting them go. Pot is subject to discretion of the officer, where as other drugs such as meth, etc. are not. I think this is the 4th time I have read something you posted that is so way off base today.

I believe the City of Denver decriminalized marijuana up to a certain amount. The odd thing though is that it is still illegal under Colorado law. So, if you're busted with pot in Denver by a city cop, no problem but if you're busted by a state cop, problem.

I'm sure if you have a perscription for medical marajuana then the cops would have to turn a blind eye. Good luck getting a doctor to write you a perscription.

In this section of Answers, insinuation is everything. How much did you have on you, and how much time did you serve? You've got to be prepared for counter-questions like this. This is coming from a civilian after reading many cops' replies.

Hopefully not. Any Police Officer who would do that is called a rouge cop. All states have Laws in regards to Drugs. Any Police Officer that turns their heads, when drugs are involved need to fired. They are Bad Cops.
