I am forever being called down to consentrate( the more I consentrate the worse I get) I get up in the middle of class and I jiggle my leg and drum on desk. my mom is like the warden at my house constinatly trying to get me to do my homework-but I do get strait A's. I have always been hyper but in the past two years it's gotten worse-ALOT WORSE! My Grandpa- 63 and xtremly hyper, his kids aren't hyper at all, but my oldest bro and I are really hyper, neither of us havebeen diagnosed w/ ADHD but we have been asked if we have it plenty of times. I am so wound up I am exhausted in the afternoon- so much that I go and take a nap- a 2hr nap- then after that I'm back to hyper again , I sorta wanna kno but , I'm afraid to find out.I am also afraid to ask my mom to get me evaluated.

Well it's strange to see that you have these symptoms of hyperactivity, and your mom has to really ride your butt about homework, yet you still get straight A's. Being able to focus enough to get really good grades is a-typical with ADHD, but I wouldn't necessarily rule it out.

Here's the thing, if how you are isn't effecting your grades, and you're doing well with your life, is it a problem for you? If it isn't, great! But if it is, it may be in your best interest to talk with your doctor, and see a psychologist for an ADHD test.

It's a relatively easy disorder to deal with now days, but it's best to be fully tested with how easily people love to overdiagnose and medicate in this day and age. I think that you should ultimately decide what is best for you. The biggest thing is that ADHD or not, you are who you are, and nobody wants to take that away from you.

As to finding out. The process is fairly straight forward, but elaborate enough that you would want to meet with a psychologist. Just don't be afraid. Afterall, even if you do have it, if you don't like how you are using medication, you can simply stop taking it at any time and the worst case scenario is winding up exactly where you are now, which doesn't seem to be too bad :)

Best of luck!

Listen. You may have ADHD but the fact is that all they will do is medicate you with some nasty drug like Ritalin. This will not be good for you as it really messes with your creativity. A lot of people have ADHD and they do poorly at school because of it, just because you are overly active don't assume that this is because of a condition, you may just have a great deal more energy than other people. What you may want to do is work out a sleep program that doesn't allow any nap time so that when you do go to bed you fall asleep. As far as high school students the ones that seem cool calm and collected are just good at acting, as they are just as totally insecure about just about everything as you or anybody else. Teen years are the most frustrating and upsetting because social standards and bodies change so rapidly it is difficult to become used to it. I wish you well and I truly believe that you will be fine.

It's a possibility, if you are really concerned then you should tell your mom to get you evaluated. There's nothing to be afraid of. Go for it. Good luck.

It sound like you have something going on there. If you want to know, but you don't want to ask your mom right away talk to someone at your school like your teacher or school nurse. They should be able to help. At least help you with talking to your mom.
