sip like from a glass. Putting the whole top part in your mouth is just gross, though I remember doing it all the time as a kid and watching my kids do it as well. Thankfully it's something most people out grow!

drink from the bottle, might not be hygenic, but it is economical as you will only drink what you want, whereas a glass you will generally pour more than you require. therefore it is a question of hygiene, over economics.
