I throw an annual WTF!!?? Party. All of my girl friends bring the hilariously crappy gifts that they got and we laugh hysterically at each one. Then we pack them up and give them to Goodwill. It's good times. We call them our WTF!!?? gifts, because that is what we were thinking when we first opened them. lol

We've had everything from Gatlinburg keychains to snowman sweaters. It's awesome.

Long ago, in a galaxy far, far away, my best friend gave my husband a Hallmark Christmas ornament.

My husband made perfunctory thanks to my friend, but admitted to me afterwards that he didn't really care for the present, because he thought Hallmark ornaments were "effiminate" and the ornament, which was made of plastic, was a little "cheesy," even though it related to his science-fiction interests. He tossed the ornament up on a shelf and there it sat, gathering dust, until nearly Christmas the next year.

That was when, in casual conversation with someone at work who was both a Hallmark collector and a Trekkie, he mentioned that he'd been given this ornament, which was a small plastic model of the Starship Enterprise.

Yep, my friend gave my husband the first Enterprise Star Trek ornament for Christmas, the one that now sells for $350 and more.

When the person my husband was talking to started raving at how lucky he was to get the ornament, and if he ever possibly could maybe bring himself to ever sell it, he should let her know first....well, all of a sudden light dawned for my husband that sometimes what you think is an awful cheesy gift isn't so awful and cheesy anymore.

He still has the ornament and he now collects Hallmark ornaments himself.

If I didn't like a present I got i wouldn't throw it away I would exchange it for something else or giving it to a charity shop would be a great idea.I hope this helps.

I LOVE Jennifer's WTF Party idea - brilliant! Though one would have to be careful that the donors of the gifts weren't present! I try to let the donor of an unwanted gift see the gift being worn or used; after that the gift goes to charity. Sometimes I keep a gift carefully (unused) & regift. Nothing gets wasted in my house! I always remember that the person went to the trouble of getting me a gift & I appreciate the thought.

Nothing wrong with re-gifting...as long and you dont give it back to the person who gave it to you. Just give them a "huge" thank you for their kindness when you receive it and keep the secret to your grave! There has to be someone out there that will appreciate that gift or no one would be manufacturing it? If you know where they got it from...maybe you could exchange it for something you really wanted?

If reasonably good I give it to a mate, but not as a prezzie, I simply explain I don't need or want it.
If middling good, or not too manky, to a charity shop.
If really w@nker material, I toss out or give to a mate who can then use it for his archery practising.

I don't keep presents I don't like - I usually "regift" it to someone else who might like it. You can also give it to a charity if you wish.

I might give it to someone else next year, or give it to the Salvation Army. They could always use it no matter how horrible it is. Act like you like it to that person though. I guess it all depends on what you want to do.

keep it. Use/wear it once or twice so if they come over you can say how much u -Love- it just to make them feel good. If they're are NEVER going to come over though, I say give to charity. lol
