Rawhide is bad for any dog. It provides only empty calories, (and thus is unhealthy), causes dogs to chew their gums raw, and can be a choking hazard. Stick with toys or greenies.

No a puppy under six months should NEVER have rawhide. In fact I would not suggest it at all. Its hard to digest and can cause a blockage even as an adult. My bullies like nylabones the hard nylon ones or you can try a raw soup bone from the store. However don't feed any cooked bones. Good luck!

I gave rawhides to my pit bull ever since he was a puppy, maybe a few weeks older than yours. He loves them, though they don't last long anymore as he is 70 lbs now. I have never had any problems with them, except he does try to swallow it when it is too big and starts gagging it up. So we just take it away when it does get too small. To this day, we can barely smell his dog breath, and we think it's from the rawhides.

Not inherently, but it can be a choking hazard or can cause an intestinal obstruction. Generally, if your dog rips large chunks off a rawhide chew, it may be safer to provide a different treat. You should never leave a dog unattended with toys or treats that could be a choking hazard.

my aunt is a breeder of dogs and recommends rawhide to help prevent boredom. she cautions against small pieces (make sure the rawhide that you buy is the appriopriate size for your dog - itll say on the packaging.) and never give them 'basted' or 'flavoured' rawhide. thats really bad for their teeth and intestines. rawhide isnt the best thing for dogs, so dont give it to them very often, but it isnt totally bad, either. nylabone chews are about the best (i think) dog toys and chews on the market. theyre a little pricey, but they last a long time. in short - plain rawhide is okay as a 'sometimes treat,' but chews like nylabone are probably better for your pet.

No at 10 weeks they are just learning "paw"/eye coordination. If they should break off a chunk, I recommend taking it away from them if you get the chance. But otherwise, they need to learn to use chew toys as a way to relieve the urge to chew instead of using the edge of a couch or shoes...you get the picture.

We had a doberman and I asked the same question to our vet. He strongly advise out to not give her rawhide. You should give him other treats like science diet etc.

A raw hide is ok as long as you don't let him eat the whole thing many try to swallow it once it is worn down. Just pick it up once it reaches a certain size so he does not choke.

It gives some dogs the poops. So if you DO give him one, make sure to let him out when he needs to go out.
