Random is incorrect about the tape adapter for 8mm.

The one he shows is for a VHS-C or Compact. They do make those.

For an 8mm tape, you will need an 8mm camera to play it through the RCA jacks on the television, or they do make 8mm recorders.

Your best bet is to take the cassette to a camera shop and see if they can convert it to VHS for you. If not, see if you can rent an 8mm camera to view it, and then record it yourself to VHS.

Renting a camera should be less than $50 a day. The move from 8mm to VHS should cost $20 to$30.

You can buy VCR adaptors that mimick a VHS tape. You place the camcorder tape on the left and the 'cassette' allows the camcorder tape to be used as a regular VHS tape.

Hopefully this is what you are after: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hama-VHS-C-Cassette-Adapter-Automatic/dp/B00005QFCJ/sr=1-3/qid=1166813842/ref=sr_1_3/026-7384631-4747627?ie=UTF8&s=electronics

You can buy adaptors for 8mm too ( I used to sell them in my shop), it looks like a normal vhs tape, you your 8mm tape inside the adaptor and away you go.
