carotid sinus is a bulb like swelling in your main arteries of the brain located in the neck (not usually palpable)

it has sensors t control heart rate and blood pressure ...

if you apply TENS on it... it is likely that you'll decrease your heart rate and BP to a dangerously low level...

Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) is the electrical stimulation of peripheral nerves for analgesic effects. A TENS machine is a small battery operated unit that people can use to help them manage long-standing pain.

In human anatomy, the internal carotid artery is a major artery of the head and neck that helps supply blood to the brain.

the carotid sinus is a localized dilation of the internal carotid artery at its origin, the common carotid artery bifurcation. It contains numerous baroreceptors, which function as a "sampling area" for many homeostatic mechanisms for maintaining blood pressure. Manual stimulation of the carotid sinus can induce the carotid sinus reflex, which may reduce the heart rate and/or blood pressure to some degree.[1] It receives innervation from cranial nerve IX (glossopharyngeal nerve).

RE:
What and where is your Carotid Sinus? Why are you not allowed to use a TENS machine on it?

I used it at home when I was in labour, but didn't find it helpful, my contractions were very powerful right the way through and the TENS didn't really help at all with the pain, I found the sensation slightly irritating more than anything else (like having hundreds of ants crawling under your skin!). I took it off before I went to hospital as it wasn't doing anything for me. Some women find it very helpful though.
