I was just wondering...how do people go about entering kids in the foster system? I know someone in the foster system but am hesitant to ask them about it. So...anyone know?

I think that you should ask them and get it over with in a way they might want some one to talk to

Sometimes the child's parents or other relatives who are caring for them voluntarily place them in the foster care system because they cannot take care of them. Other times, a concerned person calls the local human services agency to report suspected abuse or neglect. Sometimes the child reports the abuse or neglect themselves. Other times, the adult taking care of the child may break a law or pass away and their children are put into foster care until some other arrangement can be made. I am sure there are even more ways that it can happen, but I am not thinking of them right now. It depends on the particular situation.

There are many ways children enter the "system", none of them pleasant. If you are referring to a voluntary placement, your best bet would be to contact several large churches in your area and ask for their Foster Care program. I know these are offered by Catholics, Presbyterians, and Episcopalians. Although they are bound by state laws, they permit voluntary placements and it is much easier for parents to be reunited with their children.
