He is a total jerk but my mother expects me to get him something. Last year he got black socks. Any ideas?

Does he like any sports teams? Buy him a hat or t shirt.

Yes, get him a gift certificate to a nice restaurant. Put the certificate in a card and in the card write: "Wishing you a Merry Christmas and I hope you and my mother will have a great time at (restaurant's name)."

So not only are you giving him something, you are also providing a gift that can be shared with your mother.

(By the way, it is wrong for your mother to expect you get something for someone you do not like. But, children are often expected to compromise their principles when it comes to their parents' current lovers.)

Why would you have to buy your mother's boyfriend a gift for Christmas. I wouldn't get him anything especially if you don't like him. If they get married then that is another question, but right now since they are just boyfriend/girlfriend don't worry about it.

Thank you thank you. I laughed so hard at your question. That was the funniest REAL question I have ever seen.

In all seriousness though I second the gift certificate. Maybe make it so it is for your mother too, like a nice restaurant?

If he was a part of her life a year ago you might want to try harder for the sake of your Mom. Ask her for some gift ideas, but name your price range first, and be sure you genuinely want to please your MOM when you ask her. Be gracious as you will be sharing your life with your Mom, hopefully forever. Good luck on maturing into a person YOU will be proud to be. By asking here you really are making that first step. I, for one, am proud of you.

Go to Walgreens or somewhere like that and pick him up one of those little food baskets people give one another for the holidays. It has like coffee and chocolate, cheese...crap like that. It's the best way of saying, "I'm giving you a present because I'm expected to, but it's not like I'm putting any thought into it." LOL.

Make it something simple and impersonal like a gift certificate. That's the best way to handle the situation. Everyone likes gift certificates so it probably won't offend him.

Something that tells him EXACTLY how you feel about him. Maybe a Milli Vanilli CD or some other ripoff like that. Unless he likes Milli Vanilli.
