Well, it mostly depends on what type of specialty. If you're talking about something like neurology, it should be significantly higher than an allergist for example. Part of this is attributable to the equipment used by various specialsts, and how many hundreds of thousands of dollars they have to spend on it.

Something to keep in mind is to call around. Most specialists are privately owned, so there isn't a standard for what they charge. For a rough idea, my allergist charges $200 for the first visit, and $50 beyond that. That doesn't include any testing or medication.

Depends on the type of specialist and what you need to be seen for, but you're typically looking at around $500. Other factors such as does the patient have insuarance or are they paying cash come into the picture. Several doctors will give a cash discount. If you are short on money ask if the doctor will work out a payment plan.

I think it depends on many factors like the area you live in, the type of specialist, and the visit. Around here an orthopedic surgeon runs around $125, a neurologist about $175. Get a few names of the type of specialist to go to from your regular doctor and call and ask to make sure. Also talk to people you know and ask opinions if they have been to the same type of specialist and see how they think of their particular doctor. Word of mouth referral treatment is great and well worth the cost of your health even if the price is a bit higher. Good luck.

This should depend upon the economic status of the patient, if the doctor believes in humanitarian way of treating. Anyway, a doctor puts his almost half of the life in studying medicine and specializing in it. A lot of hard work and dedication is needed to do all that. So I think, they need a handsome payback for their hardwork.
