Because when assigning a date for Christmas, Church leaders had no idea when Christ was born and they thought it'd be a good idea to place it at the same time of year as pagan holidays. Hopefully, that would make it easier for the pagans to convert to Christianity (no one wants to give up a reason to party). Celebrate the birth of Christ and make conversion easier. Two birds with one stone.

After learning the truth about the origin of Christmas, I don't celebrate it. The only celebration commanded for Christians is to commemorate Jesus Christ's death. To determine the date, it is the Jewish month Nisan, the 14th day after sundown. This is celebrated once a year. It would come next year on April 2nd. 2007, after sundown.--1 Corinthians 11:23-26; Luke 22:19.

Does it really make a difference? For those who believe in Christ, we celebrate every day by trying to be like Him. No other except Jesus has beaten death. God is real. He lives today as 2,000 years ago. We must prepare for Him. I was present at my mother's death and I can assure that her spirit lives on because the peace that overtook me was not of this world. All Glory to God, the alpha and omega. God is love for eternity.
