I'm doing a project on sleep deprivation, and I was just wondering what the longest you've gone without sleep? And if you've gone a long time, did you have any weird side effects?

As part of my project, I'm going to try awake for 90 hours, starting today. I got up at 9 am (GMT) and will probably go to bed around 11 pm Christmas day GMT time. I'd like to know your experiances, for my project and so I know what to expect.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, but I will be spending tonight and sunday night alone, but I will be spending tomorrow night doing things with a group of friends. Do you think this will help?

7 days was my max. By then I was watching the walls move, extremely paranoid and physically, my whole body hurt. Especially my neck.

I wouldn't suggest it to anyone.

Longest I've ever been without sleep is probably 30+ hours. I don't remember exactly. I'll be alright for the first day during the 'normal waking hours, then feel sleepy, and than I'll hit the '2nd wakefulness', where I'm very alert. The trick is to keep your mind occupied so that it doesn't feel sleepy. Lots of caffeine may do the trick, thats what I do when I stay up a whole night doing an essay and have to attend lectures/labs the next day. Make sure you drink lots of water though. Caffeine is a diuretic, and if I have too much and not have enough water, I'll feel nauseous.

It once happened (and I hope never again) that I reached office on Friday and we were reported with a major issue at client's site, the problem was so big that we had to get things rolling before people start using the systems on Monday morning. I stayed back in office, the problem was resolved by Monday morning, but we had to keep a watch in order to make sure nothing goes wrong, I finally reached back home on Monday evening. Must not have slept for more than 4-5 hours during this whole trauma. I still get goosebumps when I think about this.

So far my highest "stay awake" thing is 2 and a half days. you definetly need to stock up on pop, coffee any type of caffeine (sp?) and some food and it wouldn't hurt to have a friend with you. also the computer passes time VERY fast like i could swear i've only been on for and hour but it's been like 3 so yea that helps. At first you will think that it is easy but then you get tired really fast. Try not to eat warm or hot food because that puts you to sleep the best food, at least in my opinion is apples and peanut butter and yogurt, to keep you up

i once stayed up for about 4 and a half days, sorry id ont' know the exact hours, but i did okay until third day, was not reall coherent that day, and when i was done, i was definately done. i crashed and slept for almost a day and a half was difficult to waken. i really wouldn't recommend it. on shorter periods of time, like 24 hours to 36 hours, i have noticed a huge drop in ability to concentrate, and was at work and had to think of things or remind myself of thins 3 times to make sure i didn't make mistakes. 4 1/2 days is a little over 100 hours

I have been up for 3 days straight. I didn't notice any side effects, except maybe irritability. But, if you celebrate Christmas, you should have done this test on yourself a different time, as you will be even more exhausted. Good luck!

28 hours! I had headaches, was always hungry and thirsty for something sweet. To help, I watched some adult films...but make sure they're not boring you. Also, embark on your project with a friend. to keep you awake!
