Most of these answers will tap dance around it, but it goes back to when the catholic church commanded the largest army in the known world and they needed to keep the recuits up. You were to have as many children as you could, preferably boys, and turn them over to the church, usually the jesuits. The jews had a similar thing about not casting your seed on barren ground. They needed warriors to defend themselves.

I'm not Catholic, but the birth control issue has to do with the reason for marriage, i.e. procreation as a part of marriage. Why would anyone want to get married and not have children? Therefore birth control is basically saying that you don't want to fulfill the purpose of this institution. There are other "natural" methods of birth control though that are not frowned upon by the Catholic Church.

It's a control. As the catholic church came into power in centra/south america, africa, asia, europe, they needed something to hold over the public, sonmething to scare them with, something to make the church stand out.

As there was little to stand out in good favor concerning the catholic church they decided on abortion and birth control to keep the poor even pooror which also left them in control of the poor.

Like the Governments and islamic countries one way ot control people is to keep them poor and hungry, they best way ot do this is overpopulation and uneducated. and keep the women barefooted and pregrant and under bondage.

The Catholic church does not condone most modern methods of birth control. The church does approve of Natural Family Planning (NFP), which is also known as the rhythm method or the calendar method. Proponents say that NFP is extremely effective when done correctly.

In their view, procreation is the only legitimate reason for intercourse. To engage in sex for enjoyment only is a sin of the flesh. Especially in past times, the woman was never to allow herself to feel pleasure in the sex act. Funny..................Never heard of a man ordered to serve penance for enjoying sex with a woman. Has anyone else?

Within the past century, The Church has allowed the rhythm method of birth control, which is abstaining from sex during the most likely fertile time, since it is a natural form of birth control. My opinion is the real reason for this change, like changing the dogma of eating no meat on Friday, was to keep parishioners. within the Church..

According to the Catholic church, anything that acts as a barrier to the intention of god, goes against god's design and is therefore a sin.

The Catholic Church teaches that it interferes with God's natural process of procreation.

In Genesis 38, Onan was commanded by God to produce offspring but he instead decided to interfere with the process and was struck down for it.

(I do not agree with this doctrine but that is the reason behind it.)
