Because water that goes through the water heater will pick up trace elements from the heating system and that gives a foul taste to the water.

Boiled straight from cold maintains more oxygen in the water.
The water in the Water Heater is robbed of some of this oxygen and it picks up mineral deposits from the water heater tank.
I don't make tea but I occasionally make hot chocolate from a package.
When no one's looking, and I want to save a little energy (not rewarming water from standing cold water), I'll use the Hot Water from the tap -- then warm to to very hot either on the stove-top or in the microwave. I can't tell the difference.

Not 100% better, I don't taste a difference, but I know some tea fanatics that say it tastes way better. Probably because it isn't first going through the hot water tank and sitting there, nice and fresh from the ground

Never drink water from the hot tap. Have you ever seen the gunk inside of a hot water heater? If you had, I guarantee you wouldn't be drinking water that had sat in there with that. It is as nasty as a sewer. Always use cold water for everything consumption-wise.

Because hot water from the tap has gone through all those minerals that collect in your water heater and that'll add unwanted flavor to your tea.

Beacause cold water has oxygen in it, and this makes the tea taste better.

It's crazy...but I am an ice tea fanatic and I have never even thought about this question before. So, I give you a thumbs up. Also, I would say memyselfandI gave a good answer...it seems very reasonable. Good job to both of you.

Cos its fresh from the mains and contains most oxygen. Water thats been standing or previously heated has lless oxygen and makes a tea that tastes flat and dull.

hot water sits in a tank for a long time so it isnt suitable to be drunk...i know boiling it will remove bacteria, but there'll be copper etc. from the pipes in it and it's still stale and old so it won't taste as nice either.
