I would use a sound recorder such as wavepad go to: http://nch.com.au/wavepad/index.html and download wavepad and hit control->record and play the DVD and it will record the sound.

If the DVD is not protected you can load it into any video editing software package such as Cyberlink Power Director. I do this all of the time. I'm not sure of any free software. Just spend the money.

you can't convert dvd to mp3 but if you want to convert cd in a dvd player to mp3 or dvd to mp4 you might try

You cannot convert a film file to a music file! There completely different codes.

Try AoA DVD ripper. it rips dvd into video(avi and Mpeg) and also the selected channels into MP3
