Myspace is for more than meeting new ppl online. Many people, especially teens and 20-ish students create myspaces so they can have their own website without actually knowing how to create one. Because you can choose the layout, background, background music, and friends, It's basically the same as having a website all about you.
When it comes to meeting ppl online, i don't really think that's what most people use myspace for. At least, my (real-life) friends and I don't. We're just friends with each other, and sometimes with each other's relatives and other friends. So the ppl we meet on there are actually connected to ppl we know.
I've personally never thought I can trust people who I meet online, especially for romantic reasons, but that one's up to you!

You can't trust ANYONE; online or not. But MySpace helps people with similar interests to connect. Whether it be for dating, gaming, sports, whatever. It's not like you should go there to meet guys and then go right over to their houses. Like anything; use some common sense. I meet a lot of cool people through MySpace, most who I will never meet in person cause they're in Europe and such.

Well you can see what their profile looks like and read comments left by people on their profile. You can check out their 'friends' profiles.
It's easy to see who is real and who isn't.
