What is "Farfel", the recipes call for a box of Farfel. Where can you buy it or can you make it at home?

FARFEL MUFFINS

1 1/2 c Farfel
4 Eggs
-Salt & Pepper to taste
1 tb Schmaltz; more or less

Put farfel in colander with bowl underneath and pour boiling water over - let stand till soggy about 5 minutes. Drain well and add eggs and seasonings and schmaltz. Put dab of schmaltz in bottom of muffin tin ~ heat pan in oven then take out and fill with mixture. Bake at 400 for 30 mins. I usually double recipe.

They come out all big and puffy and as they cool they flop. Also be careful; the bottom of the oven gets covered with schmaltz. I usually make these till the oven starts to smoke - but never have enough.

here's the recipe:

RECIPE INGREDIENTS:
1 box farfel
Boiling water as needed
1/2 stick butter or margarine
3/4 cup boiling water
1 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. sugar
5 to 6 eggs, beaten
Vegetable shortening

1. Empty box of farfel into a large colander and pour boiling water over it until moist. Drain well. Dissolve the butter or margarine in 3/4 cup boiling water (microwaving the water in a glass measuring cup works great). Mix together the dissolved butter, salt, sugar and eggs in a medium size bowl and then stir it into the moistened farfel. Blend well.

2. Grease the muffin tin with vegetable shortening and fill with farfel mixture. Bake at 375 degrees for 45 minutes or until the tops are crispy. Serve hot. They can be split and toasted the next day.
