Seriously, it depends on the woman. Each individual is different. My husband and I don't like empty romantic gestures and just made the decision to get married together and matter-of-factly. Which was perfect for us. Another couple I know had a romantic, twinkle-lights set up around a table on a dock, candle-lit dinner down-on-one-knee proposal, which was perfect for them.

Have y'all talked about marriage before? The one common thread in all the successful proposals I've seen/heard of in my life is that both parties already knew they were eventually going to marry. Bring it up the next time y'all are talking about the relationship. Plan the proposal from the outcome of that conversation.

And find out how she feels about rings and stones. Blood diamonds are an issue, and while some women feel an engagement ring is necessary, others don't want/need them. The most beautfiul engagement ring I've ever seen had an emerald, no diamonds.

I've always wanted a proposal to be something cool, like in the movies. Take her to a fancy restaraunt and have the waiter put the ring in an expensive glass of champagne or on top of her dessert.

For Christmas you could wrap up a stuffed animal and put the ring on a ribbon around its neck.

Just don't propose to her in front of a bunch of family members, it takes the magic out of it. Trust me. By the way, congratualtions on your big decision!

Whats your favorite thing to do together? Take for example: You love mountain climbing. You could take her moutain climbing and at the top of the rock you can have a little picnic set up and thats where you can ask her the big question. Take what you guys love and do some thing with that, that would be the best thing, that way she would have no idea.

be as romantic as possible, it will be a moment she will always remember. wait until xmas morning and go to her house with all her family there. put the box in a bigger box full of tissue or peanuts so she has to dig for it, then wrap that box in a larger one and so on and son for a about 4 or 5 boxes. by the time she gets to the last box and digs the ring out she will be so curious about the gift and will open the box and be in total shock. but dont give her any hints. be on one knee and ask her to marry you.

you can go somewhere that has importance or significance to the both of you and then ask her...
