My friend is half Japanese and right now she's in Japan w/ her mother who is dying (terminal cancer). I want to say something nice to her in Japanese but I have no idea what to use. Any nihonjin wanna help?

Don't bother saying any thing in some one else's language you could end up insulting them. Just say my prayers are with you in English and if you want to talk give me a call collect. If you could converse then go for it, but since you can't you might complicate things more. This isn't a time to try to get fancy, just keep it at the basic level of simplicity. That just might throw her off first she's she listening to you in English then with out warning you try to communicate in her language.

No, don't say this or anything else. They wouldn't approve of any comment even though your heart is in the right place, you may even get your friend into trouble for mentioning her moms illness and at worse you could cause her mom extra grief. Best thing you can do is to support your friend!
