I'm currently suffering from severe anxiety. I'm taking Paxil CR but I don't know if it's working so much. I have been dating a girl for 6 weeks and when she doesn't call back right away or we don't talk for a few days I'm a nervous wreck. Anyone have any pointers for relaxation exercises or things I can do to help me calm down? When she sees me filled with anxiety she pulls away, but when I'm normal things are great. I just want to be normal again and to be able to relax instead of worrying over nothing.

Paxil CR is a great drug. I am taking regular Paxil, but I love it. It may be possible that you need to up your dose, or add another medication to help you.

As far as anxiety relief goes, try breathing exercises. Close your eyes and breathe in through your nose, and out through your mouth. That helped me a lot while I was going through the process of being diagnosed with panic disorder.

Go talk to your Doc again and let him know what's going on. Feeling anxious around girls, especially if you haven't been in relationships before, is normal. I didn't have my first real girlfriend until I was 18 because I was so dealthy afraid to talk to girls. Now I am married with two kids. :-)

Good luck.

You should search for a psychologist in your area. Anxiety disorders tend to be very treatable conditions through a form of therapy known as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (aka CBT). CBT tends to be a short term 10 to 30 sessions treatment that focuses on specific patient goals. It can be skill focused or help you gain perspective on your problems so they are less anxiety provoking. Most anxiety disorders can be overcome with this form of therapy, and you will no longer need medications. Use the website below and find a psychologist in your area.

You could try some breathing exercises, but more importantly you should consult your doctor about adjusting you medication dosage. The fact that you recognize the behavior is positive. When you start getting anxious sit or lie down and relax by breathing slowly and deeply and try to focus on something positive. Listen to relaxing music while doing this if possible.

Try going to a yoga class, it is great for your mind body and spirit. The medication may not have kicked in yet, depending on how long you have been taking it. Sometimes it takes several weeks, even months. If it hasn't worked go to the doctor and maybe he can switch you to somthing else.

As far as your issues, try not to stress them to much.. This girl probably just wants to take her time with things. relationships usually work out better when you take your time with things. If she hasn't called you in several days, just call her. But don't be annoying b/c you will push her away. It will all work out just have patience.

Happy Holidays.
