71 is a fairly small number. Think about it. More ppl will die in America due to car crashes alone. Should we stop driving? You are focused on what little information you have. How about this..in this war there have been some odd 3200 Americans killed. There were 3000 Americans killed on 9/11/01 ALONE, just in 1 day, due to terrorist attacks. How many attacks have been made on the USA since? 0. How many lives has that saved? We will never know but I guarantee its more than 3200. Soldiers CHOSE to be soldiers, knowing the consequences and the possibilities. This war is not bs, what would happen to a country who did not stand up for itself after someone had just attacked them on their own soil and killed 3000 innocent victims? If you really believe that their actions on that day wasnt worth this war then you are an idiot and a p*ssy. Again, only 3200 Americans have died in this war in 3 1/2 years...in the same amt. of time there were 50000+ dead in the Korean War from America. Obviously we are doing something right b/c again we have not been attacked here in America since we have invaded the middle east. The war was done in the wrong manner but this war was most definitely necessary. Our biggest threat and the guy who hated us the most sat there and saw us become vulnerable on 9/11, we had to take out Afghanistan where the plots and Al-Qaida originated, and then afterwards we take care of Saddam who was willing to help and support any group who opposed us.

The troops deserve more than your pity, you are talking about pulling out of this war b/c you want to do it for the troops yet you contradict yourself b/c they CHOSE to join the military. The possibility is obvious when you join the military, especially at a time of war. Dont be an idiot. If you cannot support our troops then you are being just that.

I believe that this war has a tremendous impact on our freedom of religious expression that the terrorists who would like to see quashed. President Bush took the risk of war and all its ramifications to remove Saddam from power which he did. What is left is a wake of violence as a new country gains a foothold, and we are committed to assisting the country in getting on its feet. This takes time, and American lives. But I also believe that American power needed to be projected in the national interests of this country, and Bush did the right thing for a long-term solution that would have only been perpetuated by an impotent United Nations. The solution is victory, not a "new direction" of reverse and retreat. Our 71 American troops need to be honored, not apologized for.

No. It's not. I'm an American but I do not support what the gov't is doing over there at all. They had no business going in there to start, and have no business being there today. The whole thing was "sold" to the masses based on lies, and post-9/11 paranoia, and now it's nothing but (an apparently endless) Occupation. Personally, though I feel sorry for people who lose loved ones there, I can't honestly say at the same time that I blame the Iraqi men who resist the American occupation. If there were foreigners from some Arab country on my street, in uniforms, kicking in doors, making us go through checkpoints, treating us poorly, in our own country, you can bet that I would be part of the local resistance as well. "Insurgency" is common sense.....self-defense. To expect a proud people NOT to want to rise up and defend their country after it's been invaded and occupied, not to want to expel the occupier (or at least have him set a definite date for when he's LEAVING) , is simply naive and stupid.

No, it's not worth it. We're supposed to be "Peace Keepers" over there now that Saddam is out of the way, but I don't see that working at all. Now they're wanting to send over even more troops! All the while Bush saying "We're not winning this war" Well of course we aren't. War on Terrorism will NEVER be won. Look at how long we've had a War on Drugs.... are Illegal Drugs gone????? *Shakes head* And these people are supposed to be our Hope for the Future?

I have to apologize, everyone. I voted for Bush, so these deaths are my responsibility as well. I agreed with the war to begin with, but for quite a while now have been solidly opposed to it and to Bush. I believe that the war was based on WMD...an assumption that they were working on them. Once Bush found out that was wrong, he floundered for a new reason and came up with a new (and in my opinion worthwhile) excuse...Sadaam's oppresion, and freeing Iraq. Wonderful...done. Soooo, why are we still there? Yeah...I no longer think this war is about democracy, nor is it about terrorism, oil, or daddy. I firmly believe it is about Bush making a mistake and his arrogance saying that to quit would be to "let the bad guys win". That's what it would say to Bush, so he has to prove that he is stubborn enough to outwait the terrorists and insurgents (which will never be done) so he can claim victory. But at what cost? The price is too high, in my books.

This war hasn't been worth the cost of one life, let alone the thousands killed on both sides. Everyone who posted before me has already said what I would have, so there's no point in repeating it. I would like to add that although I don't support Bush and his war, I'm behind our troops 100%.

Wrong group, but I will answer you question.

No life is worth losing for this or any other war. However, since our nation is at war, we should feel an obligation to support the service members that are doing their job. Remember they have joined (not drafted into service) to serve their country for any number of reasons; some of which include all of the freedoms that we enjoy daily, like voicing our opinions (1st amendment). Please also remember that we were attacked first, and whether we agree with the decisions our leaders (president and congress) have made, it was done in the mindset that these actions will be in the best interest of our nation and overall security. I can not say that I agree with every decision that has been made, however, I haven't been presented with all of the facts that the decision makers were. I agree wholeheartedly with defending our nation, our freedoms and our people. I have no problem with you and others voicing your opinion, but please be mindful of what others may think of your opinion.

It's not worth one soldiers life ... let alone 3000. The question is what are you going to do about it. Complaining on this website doesn't do anything. Protesting out in front of the Pentagon however sends a message to the goverment that we want it to stop now. Join the hundred or so people that are protesting the war instead complaining anonymously on here.

Sadly more are murdered in Detroit than in the war each year!

Not minimizing the lives lost but try adding up those murdered in the whole US each year and it makes Iraq's numbers look like a joke in comparison to the good we are doing there. How many of the terrorists from the deck of playing cards are left?? Very few!!!

If we don't allow our army to win, then it's not worth it.

But was it worth it when over 1000 Americans died in one day at Normandy, or 4000 died in a matter of weeks at Iwo Jima?

Remember, nearly 3000 American civilians died in a matter of hours on 9/11. Since then, the sacrifices of our military (and the efforts of other agencies) has, so far, ensured that a repeat of that horrible day hasn't happened. Freedom isn;t free...it's bought in blood. Always has, always will. We may not like it, but that's the reality.

God Bless every American soldier, sailor, airman, and marine, especially those in harm's way.
