They call it a teleprompter- It is an automated routing phone system whose main purpose is to maintain only the essential manpower to deal with customers. It is good for the company for savings, but universally found most annoying by everybody.
The corporations save money by making you do all the work for them on your own time- is basically the definition of this widely used "service".
If you absolutely hate it, move your business somewhere else and use some of the ones who still have humans answering the phones. They are rare now. Or use the company's webpage, which most likely will also be bad.
