4 cats inside, 3 dogs, an oscar fish who actually acts like he'd like to play with them all as he follows them when they run past him and smacks into the side of his tank. Most cats i have ever had in the house at once was about 12. Growing up on a farm we had a total of almost 70 outside cats. We even took in strays.

When I am asked this question, I give the following answers:

"I have more cats than any sane person should have."

"My cats fit snuggly onto my couch when I'm watching TV."

"I have enough cats that mice will never be a problem for us."

"I have a plethora of cats." (Increases the vocabulary of people I tell this to if they bother to look it up, which most don't.)

"Why, do you need a cat? I can probably spare one." (Causes most people to back off.)

"Why on earth would you need to know that?" (Reserved for nosey people who are going to say I have too many, no matter how many I actually have.)

"Oh, I don't know, they're so hard to tell apart,"

"Do you mean physically or philosophically or theoretically or metaphysically?" (If you can't dazzle them with billiance, baffle them with bull****)

"Well, doesn't that depend on the solution to the Schroedinger's Cat problem?" http://www.lassp.cornell.edu/ardlouis/dissipative/Schrcat.html

Many answers to the question...few that involve actually admitting to the number of felines with whom I share my home and my life.
