It seems that this has got a lot of people, a clue, its to do with "OBSERVATION"!

The same thing that I see when I get on the road "EVERYTHING"!
As a commercial truck driver I have to be prepared for anything.
And as an American citizen, please disregard those people that don't have the knowledge to understand what a motorway is, our educational system here in the states is somewhat lacking (understatement).
I also know what a lorry, bonnet and boot mean in proper UK English.

The last thing I saw was the chicken hitting the windshield. Then eveything got blurry and dark and I woke up off the Motorway.

Anyway back to the question:- lots of things, your N/S door mirror as you move left, the sight of the sliproad, your speed, the broken white lines indicating a sliproad, about 50 things!

If i'm looking where I'm going, whatever road i'm joining.
if i'm not, probably a nice field (i live north west of the M25), or a sign telling me that motorway regulations have ended.
