Ok, I have this roll of Pillsbury chocolate chip cookie dough in my freezer and it's been there for a really long time. The package says to use by Jan 2005 .... if it's been in my freezer all this time is it still safe to use the cookie dough? Please don't think ill of me .... I just forgot about it and now I really want my cookies :-(

What they mean by "use by" is actually "use or freeze by Jan 2005." As long as it's been in the freezer the whole time, and sealed off from getting any air, it should be fine. However, if it's got any freezer burn on it, it probably won't taste very good. You can identify freezer burn by the icy crystals on the dough, or if the chocolate has turned white. Good luck.

I think since it's been in the freezer, it's ok. If it was in the fridge, I would say no. Although, it is right on the cusp of 2 years and not 1 year so, maybe not. I really don't know anything that's good to eat after more than 1 year in the freezer. Toss it.

Go ahead and enjoy! The cookies will probably need to be cooked a little longer than usual because it's been in that freezer so long.

I would think it would still be good. Have had Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream or Blizzard

It's been frozen and it will be safe to eat. It might be a bit stale or freezer burned, but not dangerous by any means!

You can use because it is 'safe' however the flavor will definitely not be as good as when new. Certain frozen foods can even lose all flavor when frozen too long.

It's safe, it may just not rise as well as fresher dough..Give it a try, what do you have to lose?

My standards are as long as it looks ok and smells ok, it's probably ok. Usually if something is wrong with food, it can be easily detected by the way it looks or smells.

no dude. that was almost a year ago. i wouldn't eat it. go buy some new cookie dough.
