Think about it: Athiests say they KNOW there is no God, but they very obviously cannot have ALL the facts, therefore they are lying to themselves and anyone they tell, when they say, "There absolutely is no God". If they would be absolutely honest, they would have to state only that they "do not know". And that would make them not only more honest, but agnostic rather than athiest.

Well all people are liars so they are liars because they are people. *** hoc ergo procter hoc.
But yes I agree with you. I am agnostic because I don't know. I don't think there is a god, but I could be wrong. I hope I am. I would like to think people I love are in a better place. Even if it means I am in hell, the people I love who believe are happy. But I do see what you say. Agnostic is the most right.

While you are certainly correct in your thought that an athiest cannot conclusively state that there is no God, I dont think lying would be the best word to use in this instance. Even though I am a Christian I do not believe athiests are more liars by percentage than anyone else of any particular belief.

If a person does not have a belief in a Higher Being...no matter what name...God, Jehovah, Allah, etc., there is no foundation in that person's life that really provides a reason why that person should tell the truth...or follow any of the Ten Commandments, other than what is written in civil law.

It might also be that they don't believe in God and feel there is no God as science has all the answers...not remembering that maybe science is what God has given us in order to try and understand how He works. As I said in an earlier Answer, the Bible says God made the earth in 6 days and rested on the 7th...what if a day to God is a million or even 10 million years to us..who knows & who cares. The Bible says we are saved by faith...we'll learn anything else we need when we get to Heaven.

Before Columbus sailed the ocean, people would tell others about the flat world. They were not liars because they did not have a higher understanding. Now apply that to Christians and Atheists, and you realize that neither are liars if they express their honest understanding, even if in the end it is not right. A lie is when you part from a truth and proclaim it to be a truth. If someone believes a lie to be true and tells others of this, he is just self-deceived, but not a liar. This is why we were warned to test all things before accepting them. People are testing right here on R&S.

Well then that would make most all other people liars, since they have no Proof of their particular God or Goddess... it's mere speculation. Agreed, in order for anyone to be absolutely honest, they would ALL have to say "I don't know....." Or, what would be nice is to see "I don't know, but I lean towards this belief......"

To say only Atheists are liars because they say there is no God without knowing the facts, makes all Religions liars for saying they know God is a Fact without knowing all the facts. These types of standards you place on others, are placed on you as well. You don't get to choose the standard by which everyone else has to "live by" and think you don't have to live by it.

Well, your reasoning is why I don't consider myself atheist. I also don't feel agnostic, either. But I definitely do not subscribe to any religion.

However, you still seem to feel that the only argument is that their either IS a God, or there IS NOT a God, and nothing in between. What if Buddhism is correct and we are all simply part of the same universal energy, and therefore EVERYONE is "God?" There are many scenarios that do not involve a supreme deity of any kind.

Actually, it is arguable that Athiests have more facts to support their beliefs than any other religion. Think about it- when a person dies, there is scientific evidence of what will happen to their body. Every person, no matter what they believe throughout their life, rots and decays like everything else on the planet post death. It makes me laugh when people, ecspecially the flock-like christians, are stupid enough to believe that only humans go to heaven and everything else dies and rots. No, we are JUST LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE on this planet in the sense that when we die, we are no dfferent. We are just not that special and some people need to get over that. Some people can never get over that notion. We all die and rot like any other animal (whom christians say cannot go to heaven by the way) -it is an indisputable fact. No other religion has evidence of this magnitude. After all, has anyone ever seen emperical evidence of a soul? No, they haven't. But we do know everything rots. Hmm.

Also, to say that athiests are "liars" because they cannot verify that god is fake is ignorant. That would mean ALL religious people are liars, as they cannot scientifically affirm the EXISTENCE of the god in which they believe! They can only stress how much they truly believe, but there is no indisputable scientific prrof to date to affirm anything, which is of course why people throughout the world cannot agree on a religion!
Unfortunately, the type of "proof" many religious people accept or believe in is often laughable and superstitous nonsense- i.e. voices, visions in dreams, a divine "sign" meant ecspecially for them, a book written by humans but supposedly influenced by a man in the sky who punishes us for everything we do wrong (and has been revised countless times for political purposes throughout history), etc. Some proof. It just baffles me how people can believe so many lies and actually donate their money to churches. It is in my humble opinion, naive and simple-minded behavior to say the least, which is why I believe religious people are in a sense mentally weaker than those who are not religious. Religious people are just more willing to accept lies and repeat them, as most of them could not go through life without something to cling to. Theoretically speaking, if there were absolute proof on the news tomorrow that scientists have discovered there was no god and had absolute proof, I'm not even sure most religious people would accept the truth. They wouldn't know what to do with themselves. They would not be able to deal with life, and many would break mentally and not be able to function. Most would simply deny it, and cling even harder to their beliefs in the wake of their disillusionment, unable to stand that what they believed so strongly was a lie. They would be crushed if they discovered they were not special creatures created by a diety.

That is the sad truth about most religious people. They simply cannot deal otherwise. That is why they attack athiests and anyone else that does not share their beliefs. They simply become defensive and fearful when their beliefs are questioned and they have no proof to back it up besides the bible they thump against their chest.

The world will only move forward when religion is stripped of it's ifluence and the weak minded people who cling to it die off due to evolution. I believe it will happen and one day, kids will read textbooks laughing at us the way we laugh at people who believed the world was flat.

i believe that alpha centauri is a star that is 4.26 light years away, i don't know for certain, I'm not an astronomer, but in all probability it's true. everything you do in your life and every choice you make is not based upon absolute knowledge. if they had to be then you would do nothing. with the facts available i have made the decision that there is probably no god. no one claims to be in possession of every fact, you just have to make decisions with the ones you've got. look closely at your argument and you will see that it is narrow and pedantic and has one major fallacy: what you say about atheists is equally true of believers.again, invert your argument, why shouldn't theists be agnostic too.

Who is or is not a liar depends entirely on your definition of the "truth".

Certainly, not all atheists say they know there is no God. They simply see no evidence for believing and refute the illegitimate "evidence" that believers present.

As for the definition of atheist vs. agnostic, an atheist merely lacks a believe in a god or gods. This does not need to involve specifically denying the existence of a god. An agnostic specifically maintains that there could or may be a god. This is an important distinction. Please learn it. You are wanting to make definitions of words into what they are not.

Sorry, you're just wrong.
