i studied it. at the time the idea was the same.
medical students need to know latin because is is the root
for all the names of medication.
i don't think it's so true anymore because new medicines
get fancy marketing names.
like lipitor or zantac or whatever.
but i still feel like the latin helps me with vocabulary and english plus learning other languages.

Yes - I'm so old that I come from an era when it was a requirement for entry into university to have at least an O-level in Latin. O-level in England, at the time, equated to a PhD in the United States . . . (joke!)
Seriously, since living in the real world, I have found my knowledge of the structure of Latin extremely useful, not only for speaking Spanish and French, but also in terms of logical thinking and having a good guess at what the occasional new word means.

And that’s good!
I think it is a PRIVILEGE if you can study Latin at school.
It is certainly not a requirement for a successful life, but as civilisation and society in Western Europe and parts of America is mainly based on Latin heritage and Christian roots, it is very helpful if you can study the origins.
In addition, a certain knowledge of Latin may simplify the understanding and learning of other languages.
Finally, it is proven that learning a clear structure (like Latin) can, on a level of brain physiology, help in the development of the webbing in your brain.

Yes, I learned it for two whole years.. Oh, how long this period was... too long a time for such a boring and difficult dead language.. Although I must admit, it has come in handy on several occasions..
