I don't think hydrogenated oil ever goes bad. Best advice, throw it out since you don't want that stuff clogging your arteries and read online on how to make your own natural frosting. Homemade from scratch would taste so much better. Everyone would love you for it!
But to answer your question, when in doubt, throw it out!

Frosting, unopened is good for a really long time. Just open it, and see if it has separated or anything. If it has been opened, I wouldn't keep it past 3 or 4 days.

Until it gets dried out or moldy. Sugar doesn't spoil.

Does it EVER go bad? I think it's an edible oil product, meaning that there really isn't anything in it that'll spoil.

unopened- its good for about 3mos
after its opened, its only good for about 3-5days in the fridge
when i doubt- throw it out!
