My husband was brought up Methodist. I was brought up Baptist, not the southern Baptist. The church I was brought up in is more laid back. Neither of us have been to church since we were little. He is in the military and was stationed out in Colorado for a year. We tried going to a Methodist church, because he refused a Baptist one. I honestly didn't care which one we went to, as long as we went and our girls, 5 and 2, had a good program to go into. We tried a Methodist church, but I didn't understand their beliefs and my husband was no help. Once I moved home, my husband is deployed again overseas, I started having anxiety attacks and my youngest daughter was having these raging crying fits, missing her dad. I talked to my mom about it and started looking for a church. We found a Baptish church. Come to find out we know a few people that go there and I have been happy ever since. Problem is, how do I get my husband to go when he gets home? The girls love it there.

There isnt much differences in Methodist and Baptist. I am a Baptist and my mother is a methodist. Here is what my moms church believes in.
Methodist-
1. they believe you lose your salvation.
2. They are part of an association where they pick the pastor and the congregation has no say in it.
3. They believe in women preachers.
4. And I know my moms church is not lead by God but by that association. The go by a paper on how they are to conduct that service.

Baptist-
1. We believe God holds us in his hands and therefore you cannot lose your salvation. Salvation belongeth unto the Lord.
2. Our church does not belong to an association. God governs us.
3. We do not believe in women preachers. God never called a woman to preach.
4. I know in our church, sometimes the preacher might preach and sometimes people might testify, or folks get saved cause the Holy Spirit passed through the chruch. We never know how the service will go.

Note: If you and your girls feel comfortable in that church and you know God wants you there then you obey God. God will take care of your husband. He will deal with his heart. Hope that helps.

That's weird because from what I've understood, beliefs wise I've been told, by methodists and baptists alike, that the only difference between the denominations is the way they baptise people. I've never actually been to a methodist church though so I don't know for sure. Just try explaining to him that the three of you are very happy at this church, and that he should give it a try at least once to see if it's really so radically different from his own beliefs. And if he hasn't even really been to church since he was little he should be able to be a *little* flexible as far as beliefs go because like I said from what I've heard they're not that different. Hope I helped. God bless and Merry Christmas.

Finding a church home is difficult at best. The important thing is to be sure of their teaching, that it is of the Word of God and not of 'rules of men'.... Finding a church family that prays for you thru good times and bad is so important! Pray that your husband joins you... I've been to both baptist and methodist churches... once people get past the 'need' for a certain denomination, they find out that family and a relationship with God is most important! Praying for your family!

I'm an atheist, my wife is methodist.
Our family goes to a methodist church because it's important to her, so that makes it important to me.
You can't make him go, but you can show him how important it is to you.

You go to church, bring your children. Be faithful in attendance. When he gets back, he'll go with you and the children, or stay home. The children will convince him of where they want to go.

religion per se is of very little importance.
what is important is YOUR personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.
don't get hung up on "religion".
