Hey there! First off, it's mainly a gimick to allow the viewer a memorable commercial. If you prefer one character over another, then having a grudge against the main 'guy', the apple, would allow you to remember the commercial. You have just proved that their gimick works. *applauds*
Secondly, the commercial is also an inudendo toward the biblical reference of the apple. The froot of the loom line of garments and undergarments is supposed to leave a sexual thought in one's mind when viewing the commercial, and therefore having the apple as the main character leaves a subconcious message that this line of underwear is O.K.
That's my analysis, anyway. Hope it helps.

Well the apple is truly 'the' pretigious fruit. You know the old saying, 'an apple a day keeps the doctore away'. What better spokesfruit could one ask for. I've never heard anything about what a banana can do, except give you a little potassium!
