I was reading a book that mentioned a long deserted NATO base that had plenty of fuel for the MPA. It got me thinking. Gas turns to karosene, but how long?

I forgot to mention jet-fuel for the P-#'s in the novel. Patrick Robenson's Kilo Class

Gas doesn't turn into kerosene, but it does start to "go bad" after about 90 days. It can thicken and gel -this is mainly due to oxidation. Stored fuel should have some fuel stabilizer/preservative added to keep it from oxidizing. I'd expect the NATO base would have added stabilizer to their storage tanks.

I would think that much of the fuel would be diesel though. Most militaries prefer to run vehicles on diesel as it is cheaper, more efficient and is not explosive like gasoline is (much safer to use in vehicles subject to attack).
