Choosing a religion?

Question

Of the 12 major religions (baha'i, buddhism, christianity, confucianism, hinduism, islam, jainism, judaism, shinto, sikhism, daoism, zoroastrianism), why did you choose your religion? The number or names of the 12 major religions do not matter, as there are about 4200 religions worldwide. What reasons to choose your religion vs the 4199 others? Was your choice even based on independent inquiry? Did you spend more time deciding which religion to choose than what major to take in college or what car to buy? Was your choice really just a matter of implicit acceptance? Do you believe the religion you choose is important, or is it enough to simply accept what was around you?

I do not think that a belief system requires a "religion".
I do think every religion has truth to it, but because mans nature is to make it "personal", that all "religions" have added points, doctrines,traditions, and belief structures that make them personalized.
That is why, now, there are churches breaking off from their "parent" affiliations.
Be it gay propositions, idolatry recognitions, or Papacy influences.
Try not to judge another based on your own understanding.
Just understand your judgement to your needs.

I do believe it is important how you worship God. He has given us the guidelines in the bible for us to follow. So 1st you would want to study the bible and make sure that the religion you have chosen teaches the truth of the bible. Not man's thoughts.

Following God's guidelines can help you have a better life now and in future, and help you in making a wise decision when it comes to other important matters.

I chose to be a Jehovah's Witness, because after studying the bible, I believe they teach the truth of the bible and that they try a much as humanly possible to live their life according to the bible. They have a true brotherhood without prejudice due to race or country. They have love among themselves. They obey God' law to learn war no more. They are the only religion that share the good news of God kingdom as the hope for man, as Jesus instructed.

I was born into a white Catholic family, yet I consider myself to be a Buddhist based on the fact that my own personal beliefs lie closely with the Buddhist beliefs. It wasn't so much of a choice as it was just a realization that Catholicism was not what I was looking for as far as their beliefs go. I hold no grudge towards any Christians who see otherwise because that is your own choice and I honor that choice. I'm only asking that others see that I've made a choice and will do likewise.

I studied as many religions as I could before realizing they are largely a lot of BS, though some do have good ideas about how to live a better and happier life. I am an atheist who follows the path & philosophy of buddhism, though I don't necessarily call myself a buddhist.

Mohamed got sick and wanted to kill himself when he was visited by an angel. There is only one angel that would make someone want to kill themselves, the angel of light the most beautiful angel there ever was his name is lucifer (the devil). Everything you say lines up with Revelation in the Bible. Christians are waiting for the Antichrist to come he is supposed to claim to be Christ. The devil (the ninth imam) in disguise is to stand next to the Antichrist. Yes the devil has made this evil religion and he will continue to kill many until it has taken over much of the world, even the United States will be ravaged by Islam. But in the end Jesus will come back and conqueror the earth and cast all unbelievers into hell. So make sure you accept Christ as your one and only salvation and repent from your sins (tern from your sin) and ask for the Holy Spirit to live in you

Pray for the presence of God and let God make Himself known to you. Like Moses, ask God "Who shall I say You are?"

To answer your question, my parents were Christian. But I walked in the wilderness for 40 years. One day after visiting many churches, I picked up the KJV Christian Bible and Jesus came into me and made Himself known to me. I left Him but He never left me. I recently moved and it is hard to find a good Bible believing church. I received Jesus as my Savior and I was baptised at age 9, but today I can say that I know the Lord and I've heard His voice. When you hear His voice, you will hunger for hearing His voice again. I read His Word everyday hoping to get closer to Him. I worship a living God.

What religion a person has is a historical accident, quite like what language they speak.

If I were to choose, it would be one that taught love. There is no religion without love. You can talk about it all you want, but if it doesn’t teach you to be kind and generous to all living things, it’s a sham.

i am catholic. i was raised catholic, but at the age of 15, i rebelled and visited many other denominations, and religions. 4 years ago, i had a miracle-my little boy was born. it was then that Jesus reminded me that God can do anything. so, i restudied the christian denominations and found that the catholic church was correct in their teaching. when i went back, i was at peace.

There are many religions in the world. They do not all teach the same thing. In fact, many of them contradict each other. So, they can't all be true and it cannot be said that each is a different path to God. What are we to say about all those other religions compared to Christianity? To get to the point, all other religions besides Christianity are false.
If Jesus is who He said He was, God in flesh, then whatever He says is authoritative and true. He said that He was the way the truth in the life and that nobody comes to the Father except through Him (John 14:6). Right there,we see that any other way, according to Jesus, is not true.
Christianity bases its truth and its doctrine on the word of God, the Bible. In the word of God, Jesus claims to be the only way. Since He performed many miracles, raised people from the dead, commanded a storm to be still and it obeyed, healed diseases, and rose from the dead Himself, then we are forced to face the reality of His words. Is what He said true or not? Either Jesus is a liar, a lunatic, or He is Lord. No one else in history, except Jesus, has fulfilled detailed prophecies, performed many miracles before eyewitnesses, and risen from the dead. Jesus is unique.
For those of us who are Christians, we have trusted what Christ has said. We believe in what He said and did. Like it or not, Jesus is the one who said He was the only way. It is not the Christians who are being "narrow-minded." It is Jesus. Therefore, to say that other religions can be true means that Jesus is false. To say that there are other ways to God, also means that Jesus is false. This is what it comes down to. Either Jesus is who He said He was and what He said is true, or He is false. This is a choice you must make. To trust what He said or reject His words.
