I suppose if you couldn't swim and fell into the ocean you would say why is the ocean one big threat, either be rescued or drown ?
It is the situation you, we, are in.
You seem to have quite a twisted view of things. Sin gives us a fear and a hatred of God.Though in one sense He doesn't need us yet He has done more than you can understand to provide us, including you, with a rescue from both our situation and our state.
The cost to Him was, as I have said, more than you and I can understand, and He would not have done that unless it was absolutely necessary for our sakes.
Now that I have come to know Him I am very sorry that you see things the way you do. If you won't believe Him, much less will you believe me, but please I urge you not to shut out His love and mercy which is yet available. He is not the ogre that you might suppose Him to be but is very personal and (I hope I am not speaking out of turn) loves as a father does his son, only perfectly and more wonderfully.
If you had a good father or if you have a son you might be able to understand something of which I am rather inadequately trying to say.
Please do not see the truth of Christ as a threat - it is the reverse.
Find out for yourself, do not accept what others tell you about Him, they may be misrepresenting Him to you, for somehow He has been misrepresented to you, from your question.

If you think about it most religions do the exact same thing. Fear is the main puller. If you don't become saved by Jesus you will burn in hell. If you do not become a Jehovahs witness you will live outside of God's love and be put through terrible tortures. If you do not become Buddhist you will face terrible demons after death and have to be reborn, because you were not enlightened in this one.
They all have this common bond which is based on fear. Who would want to burn in hell or face demons after dying?
My philosophy in life is to live it to the best that I can and be prepared for death, as it is always around the corner, we just never know when or where etc.
Maybe its the rebellist in me because when I look at religions I don't like having to be told how to live my life or go by the many rules involved in them all.
Anyway what sort of God would put that onto his people? Burning in Hell for all eternity? Doesn't seem right really. It's obvious it's a man made thing in order to control the masses and doesn't it do that so well?

I wouldn't say Christianity is just one big threat. No form of authority would be credible if it was just one trick. However, the fear of the unknown and the belief in everlasting torture is very effective to getting people in line. "Burning in hell" can create such psychological discomfort that a person cannot even question whether their faith is properly aligned or not. Many people would rather believe "just in case." To believe is their way of saying "obey." So it's obey or suffer, as was manifested many times throughout the Old Testament. It is a very effective technique. Many cults use the "join us or perish" fear when talking of some impending doom. However, Christianity has the imminent event covered, since we are all probably going to die. It is very effective. Obey now or -- no matter how good you are--suffer endlessly. (Why our personalities would exist without a biological/structural foundation is best left to "faith.")
Atheists aren't the only ones going to hell! Many Christians are breaking rules that they're not even aware of, choose to ignore, or intend to "interpret" as it fits them within their own bible. Also, there are about 3 billion people who make up 11 of the 12 other major religions; they'll be going to hell as well.

The people who came up with the idea knew that it (hell) wasn't very plausible to people, so it had to be so incredibly severe to give it more credibility. If people back then believed there was only a slight chance it might be true they were only going to only take it seriously if it had serious consequences for them. Once some people believed in the idea it was easy for it to be passed on as people would pass their own fear on to others.
Relax, it's all nonsense. If there was a God he'd be your pal, no matter what. Anyone that says otherwise worships a small, irrelevant deity.

Because Christianity is always threatened by anything foreign. Anyone who doesn't believe is suddenly the enemy and must be destroyed. They should either eat their own words about loving their neighours, or rewrite the bible to include 'loving their christian neighhours'.
It's ridiculous. Is their faith that fragile that one person who declares that they don't believe is going to change all of their minds?
If Atheists are true atheists, they wouldn't care about what religious types tell them about what happens after death, since they don't believe in god.

I think thats according to those who chose the books of the Bible and those who interperate it afterwards. Im a Christain and I don't believe in Hell. The whole concept of a unversal perfect loving spirit guiding us (the force-if your a starwars fan-right) denys the concept of a Hell. At least to me. I figure we are down here to grow spiritually- however we chose to do that- and then move on to the next level- who knows there may be tons- or just one- or we could go back and forth till we get it right- what a grand concept! Its all a learning experience- there is no hell- thats just to scare you into being "good". Be good to improve yourself! "My" Christianity as well as many others is not what my Mom used to call basic, or kindergarten beliefs---hopefully alittle better and more workable.

My first question is have you actually read the Gospels ? it seems many Atheists attack Christianity without bothering to read any scripture and understand it . And also why do you think its a threat ? Gospel means good news we are all sinners (fall short ) but we have a second chance thanks to Jesus who has paid the penalty so we may mess up and as humans we are bound to but if we ask for forgiveness in Jesus's name its forgotten. So is the real threat to you that its the truth?

This has to do with Love not threat. God has told us that nothing unclean can enter His kingdom. Are you clean before Him.
Let's us say we wanted to bake a chocolate cake. Into the bowl we add flour, milk, coco, sugar, shortening all wonderful ingredients. Then we add the eggs, only one was rotten.. We stir it up and bake it anyway. We take it out and offer it to those we love most. Would you eat it? Would it be fit for anything other than to be thrown out? This is what we do with our lives. We add a lot of wonderful things, love, kindness, charity. But we don't stop with good things we add bitterness, a lie here and there, anger,
maybe even some hatred.. We bake this up for 70 years or so and then offer it to He who loves us most, God... With all those
"rotten eggs in our cake" would you want it? Enter Jesus, he removes all that rottenness and make us clean. Then we get to hear words that would thrill any soul would delight to hear, "Well do My good and faithful servant". Jim

You are a VERY IGNORANT person obviously and I suggest actually reading the Bible before making statements like this. You don't get it that average lives DESERVE Hell. That's what every single person deserves. The beauty is that that's not what Jesus wants so that's why he died. He gives you a choice. You have to make the choice.
