What should you do if a co-worker you hate keeps calling your house and they won't leave you alone?

Well lets think grown up here. This person sounds immature. So your options are: Tell the boss at work. Since they are not your friend you have nothing to lose. Watch your back at all times. Some people can get radical. If you change your number they will find another way to pester you. Get a toy police whistle, and blow it as hard as you can. Answer the phone nice, and tell them you have something for them every time they call. Then blow hard. That will cure the person. Bet they don't call back again. Some people just never stop, or learn. If work and a whistle can't resolve it, then have a protective order placed against them at the police station. At least if they do anything to harm you , then you have it on record at work and with the police. If you do nothing then this person will get off scott free if anything happens. By the way did you do anything to irk this person off.?

I have to throw in my 2 cents Sound Guy, because I'm a sound guy too. (do you have trouble with your singers keeping the mic at the right distance too?) Any way, this person is a co worker so it's not like you can be really rude mean and nasty HOWEVER you can politely tell them you don't get much time to yourself (or with family) and you prefer not to involve co workers in your personal life. Then add quickly Please don't take it personally because I say the same thing to others too. I think you do a good job at work and I don't mind working with you there (ok so you have to lie a little) but I would really appreciate it if we could keep our contact at work. They will either say sure no problem or they will get really upset BUT don't worry about it if they get mad because after a short time they will come back to you and apologize and say they understand. I have that same problem.

I took the method of telling the coworker that outside of business hours I really like to enjoy my time, just as I am sure that they do. I then requested that if the matter could wait until the next business day, I would be happy to discuss the matter with them then.

However I work with a bit of a nuisance and that only worked for about a week. Following that I spoke to both our superiors regarding the issue.

I stated very diplomatically that I have no problems helping another employee out, however it is beginning to become quite excessive and am unsure of what steps I should be taking to make the situation more manageable for myself without offending the employee.

Remember that in a company they always like a team player, and a person who is willing to take on responsibility and is able to deal with all types of employees. You do need to be willing to associate with the employee at a more appropriate time.

Tell them to stop calling. If the persist, call the police. Make sure to keep a record of all the times your co-worker has called you at home. The police will need it to decide whether or not you have a case.

Co-workers are tricky business and the bottom-line is that you have to see this person on a daily basis, so being blatantly rude is not the best mode of operation. Courteously ignore his/her calls and continue to turn down offers/invites. He/she will come around.

First, ask them politely not to call you at home any more. Tell them you prefer to keep your private and business life separate, and unless there's an emergency or something, you don't want to hear from work associates.

You could also look into getting a call block service from your telecommunications provider. This allows you to completely block specific numbers from your phone - you won't even have to ignore the calls, because your phone won't even ring. One annoying carpet cleaning service prompted my own use of this service, and I highly recommend it.

They are probably lonely and pathetic but that's not your problem...get caller ID and don't answer. If the person says something to you about having called you just say that you saw it was him/her and you just didn't feel like talking. Unless they are completely stupid the calling will eventually stop.

Inform your supervisor. Or just tell the person to stop calling you, that you have no desire to talk to him (or her). If that doesn't work, I suggest a restraining order. Changing your phone number might work also, but it's a hassle. You can also get caller-ID, and block that person's number.

I frequently don't answer the phone for people I either don't know or do not wish to speak with.
