What is the correct substitution for using vegetable oil instead of butter or shortening?

Where do I find the food substitutions table? I'm interested in the question of substituting oil for butter also.

I frequently use olive oil or coconut oil in place of butter or shortening. And, I always use just a tad less. never actually measure, and never had any problems.
