There are simply so many places to see in China!

No matter what you like, I would suggest Beijing and Xi'an, simply because you can't go to China without seeing the Great Wall (in Beijing), and the Terra Cotta Warrior (in Xi'an). They are truly the signature landmarks in China and well worth the reputation!

If you are up to some adventure, then go to Chengdu. It is close to the Wulong Panda Reserve, where you can really hike into the woods to see the Giant Panda, and even feed them! Close to Chengdu, you can touch the "Roof of the World" - Tibet! You can visit the Holy City, Lhasa at the foothills of Mt Everest.

If you are up to the history and unique scenery, then go west to the Silk Road! You can start from Xi'an, the starting point of the Ancient Silk Road, and follow the footsteps of the ancient caravans deep into the Gobi Desert! You will see the amazing Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang with the oldest Buddhist Shrines in China and the most extensive and exquisite collections of Buddhist paintings and sculptures in the world! When you arrive in Urumuqi, you will really be surprised by its exotic architecture, extraordinary landscape and the local Uygur people.

If you are up to the dynamic culture and local people, then go to the southwest China. Kunming is famous for its diverse minorities, their vibrant life and colorful traditions. Kunming is also called "Spring City" since it has really mild pleasant weather all year long. Try the spring time to enjoy Kunming at her best time, they have all kinds of minority festivals! If you have time, complete the Shangri-la trip with Dali and LIjiang. Old town Lijiang is really a gem with over 800 years history and original look of its peaceful atmosphere.

There are simply too many options to choose from, it just depends when you are going and what is your cup of tea!

Hong Kong. Its been a while since Ive been there (2001), but there is so much too do and see there. England controlled Hong Kong for a long time. After they gave it back to china, China did not enforce all the communists rules on it and left it a great touristic attraction. My suggestion is to find a girl from Hong Kong and let her show you the city. Youll make the most of your time and see things you normally wouldnt find.

There are some nice hotels called Motel 168,offering handsome rooms at a price of 168RMB.You can find one at most places in Shanghai.Another hotel called Home Inn (in Chinese: Ru Jia)in Shanghai is good too (a standard room is about 238RMB ). Almost every youth in Shanghai, Beijing, and Hong Kong can speak English so don't worry.Enjoy your trip!

Try Tian Jin or Cheng Du. Tian Jin because it is not as "touristy" or expensive as Bei Jing and has just as much unique history and Cheng Du because it is a very historic, developing city where the prices on food and accommodations aren't as outrageous yet as Bei Jing or Shang Hai. Good luck! Don't get in trouble!!
