It was written by dozens of writers across the span of centuries. It is a 'true book of God' in the sense that that woman who dropped her babies in San Francisco Bay was performing an 'act of God'. We have no test to prove that the people who wrote those books were any more sane than that woman. If you take the word of one person who said 'God told me to do it', you pretty much have to take them all.

By coincidence I was watching a TV programme about the Bible the other night.( Presented by someone who trained as a priest, by the way ) What a lot of you may not realise is that there is a heck of a lot of scripture that DID NOT get into the bible, e.g. the so called Gnostic Gospels of Saints Thomas, Peter and Philip. The book of Mary Magdalene etc. There were in fact about 30 ( yes thirty!) gospels originally. The early church conveniently left out a lot of things because it did not shall we say "fit in " with the other gospels. For example, some of the text said that Jesus was a holy man but the son of Joseph, not God. As you can imagine The early church got the scissors out to that one.It is strongly believed that unless this drastic pruning had been undertaken, Christianity might have gone the way of the cult of Mithras, all the Greco-Roman gods, and the Gods the Vikings worshipped, that is, it would have vanished. So as for it being the word of God, pull the other one! It is the product of a group of ecclesiastical butchers. Remove the scales from your eyes please Evangelists.

The bible was written as a collection of stories and parables. No one person wrote it.
We don't even know who worked on or compiled it. Unlike the iliad or the odessy or the aenied we have no evidence of who the author is.
That is why the best way to address the bible is like the grim brother's fairy tales. We don't know where each story originated, but we know it was a compillation (even though we still don't know the person who compiled it).
If you look at the bible in this fasion, that the stories have merit in deciphering the culture of the ancient times, and look at the story in a more broad sense and mix it with history that can be verified then the bible has merit.
Unfortunately this kind of logical and rational intellectual thinking pisses off the religious zealots who want it to be taken word for word or they will stomp thier feet and throw the equivalent of an adult temper tantrum.

A variety of people wrote the Bible. David, former king of Israel, wrote the Psalms. The Apostle Paul wrote the letters of the New Testament. Luke, another apostle, wrote the books of Luke and Acts. A variety of other people, some known and many not, wrote the rest of the Bible as well.
Whether or not it is the "true book of God" is a matter of debate, the answer of which, as far as this Q&A is concerned, is based on personal beliefs. Personally, I think it is. But I would also argue that many other writings are as well. Who am I to question the validity of other religions?

All scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be thoroughly furnished throughout all good works.

well, it depends on your religion! if you are a christian then you would believe that the bible was written by the Disciples and that it is a true book of god as they were helped by Jesus (who is Gods son) whereas if you were a Muslim you would believe that the bible was dictated to Muhammad by God so that the bible is in gods words!
the bible may or may not be true as Muhammad could have heard wrong or the disciples may have not understood. Or you just may believe that the Bible could have been made up as so many accounts were supposed to have been written and that at the time only the best ones were probably chosen!
its up to you and whether you choose to believe!

It was written by many people, and it was a great deal longer before the a few counsels decided that it was too long and voted what would be in there and what would be removed. The bible that you now read was actually put together from King James as compiled from 5 different bibles and scribed by his aids. So if it is gods word then there are many many people that he would of gone through.
Lots of folks have had their fingers on that little book.

Several people wrote the Bible. There was John and Matthew and Paul among others. Even Priscilla was thought to have written part. It is a true book of God as much of it was told by him to the prophets like Isaiah.

Lots of different people, no it's not a true account of God, or the early days, this is due to man's greed, and lack of understanding, but he was able to understand that man could use this book to control many people, the true words of God are still there but many times hidden by the words of man

Unlike Muslims, who believe Allah wrote the Coran, Christians knows that human beings have writen the books of the Bible. Those writers are Phophets, who wrote what they heard from God. Therefore the Bible is "world of God" written by prophets.
