There are several good sites on the web that will correctly describe acid reflux, the causes of it and foods to avoid, my Dr. prescribed medication for me and that helped a lot, however I found that avoiding certain foods helped even more, being obese and losing some weight helped and I especially found that eating after six in the evening made the problem much worse, elevate yourself at night either with pillows or elevate the head of your bed with some blocks, avoid laying or sleeping flat. Acid reflux needs to be treated as it can lead to other more serious long lasting problems.

Hmmm... it's getting into your lungs... not good. I would start taking prilosec asap. But don't do this for a long term cure. Prilosec is only a temporary fix for reducing acid. It's not recommended to take for a long time. The acid production in your stomach is most likely caused by h. pylori bacteria which can cause ulcers. You can cure this by taking one teaspoon twice a day of colloidal silver which will destroy the bacteria. As long as you don't take more than the recommended dose, CS is perfectly safe.... I've been taking it for over a year. Also do as the med student said and watch your diet. A vegetable, fruit, and whole grain based diet will do wonders for your entire digestive system.

There are things you can try before having surgery, such as always sleeping in an upright position, don't eat right before going to bed, avoid caffeine, and put blocks under the headboard of your bed. There are also over the counter medications such as Prilosec, Zantac, and Tagamet for symptomatic relief. Don't let this go on without seeing your doctor. Cancer of the esophagus can result from prolonged acid reflux. Good luck.

No sorbitol (meaning no sugar-free gum).
No spicy foods.
No stress.
No milk products.

Or just take some pills and eat and drink whatever you like.

Do not drink carbonated drinks (including beer) and avoid over eating. Eat little and often but no big meals.
