We are home visiting my parents for Christmas. We brought our Puggle home with us and my mom's Jack Russell is very agressive towards her. Joey (the jack russell) is like this with all dogs. He was like this towards my sister's basset hound but eventually he accepted her and now they are friends. Is there anything I can do to accelerate the process and have him accept our Puggle and be friendly towards her?

Take them both on a walk with you. If on the walk one dog still gets agressive, give a slight tap with your foot to the dogs side (This will take focus off the other dog and back to you the "Master")
Dogs are pack animals, and in any pack, there is always a leader. You have to become that Leader to your dogs.

unfortunately, if you are home for a short visit, no training methods will have long enough to make an effect. jack russells are a breed that requires intensive training just to be a manageable pet - i suspect that though your mom may love the dog, she has not invested very much time in training it properly. the best thing you can do is keep them separate as much as possible. you can attempt to assert yourself as the alpha dog, since the jack russell thinks he is the alpha right now. using your two first fingers and your thumb, positioned as though you were making a dog "mouth" with them, sharply poke the jack russell in the neck area (back or side) and make a loud shushing noise each time he gets aggressive with your pug. if he is still resistant, hold him down on the ground by his neck until he is calm and submissive. your parents will need to be on-board for this to work, and will need to use the same method to remind the jack russell that it is actually the humans, and not he, that are in charge.

Please introduce them slowly on neutral ground. Outside would be best. Remember that the Jack is the boss and should be first with food, treats and affection. Your puggle will be accepted eventually but do not leave them alone unmonitored. You may need to use a baby gate to keep them apart if there is aggression. Keep in mind the Jack will be showing the pup who the boss is and if he is much older may not tolerate puppy shenanigans. You really can't rush the process just be patient and watchful.

Accelerating the process is the problem. You're forcing one dog on another in his own territory. That's like someone bein sent to stay in your house without your permission, when you don't particularly like them, and all your friends are paying more attention to them than you.

Give them both their own space. Don't force the issue or you will cause a fight.

Does Joey like to play? That might help, playing a game with them both so they enjoy the time they spend together. Don't do it if he is possessive over his toys though.

I have three dogs and mine just doesn't get along with other dogs because he thinks he is in charge of everyone. It's just his personality. Some dogs just don't get along with others. This may be the reason for the fight. You may want to nuter him.
