I have noticed that the majority of food that I buy has an estimated 80 miligrams or more of sodium. Is that a healthy amount?

maximum daily intake of salt (sodium) should be restricted to 3000 milligrams daily for the normal adult. Of course if there are cardiac issues that number goes down to 2000 or less.

To add to The Only... 500mg is the minimum necessary amount you need each day. So as long as you are between that and the appropriate max for you, you're good.
