My sister's cat has blood in his stool. It is bright red, NOT dark like tar. She is concerned and called her Vet but there is evidently a rush to get animals in before Christmas because they said they had absolutely NO openings. She was advised to take him to the animal hospital which is quite a distance. She intends to take him but can not go until this evening. She is very sad and worried. Does anyone know what causes red blood in a cat's stool? She said he is acting quite normal but said his eyes look sick. If there is anything she can do to comfort her cat please let us know. It is a male cat. The blood is in his stool ... not in his urine.

One of my cats had the same problem and it turned out to be irritable bowel syndrome. My vet recommended giving him pumpkin every day so every morning my Domino gets pumpkin pie filling. The vet said to let him eat as much as he wants. He also said it was due to not having enough fiber in his diet. He hasn't had any trouble since.

Chances are the urination everywhere is because he is ill and stressed. He could be reacting to the diarrhea and you can try putting another litter box out and see if he goes pee in one and poop in the other. As for the blood, call the vet or wherever you got him from. The diarrhea is probably irritating his bowels and the blood is from that. It should heal but you will want to make sure. I have worked in a shelter and saw that often. Although it typically wasn't serious, it was something to be monitored.

Usually RED blood has something to do with the colon. In these cases a lot of the times it is from something he ate iterating his colon when he poops (maybe something rough or sandy). Sometimes even just his regular diet can cause iteration if he is sensitive.
He may also be a little constipated which will tear the bottom as hard poop passes, or if he is doing a lot of straining to get the poop out.
Bright red blood USUALLY is nothing to worry about. BLACK TAR LIKE BLOOD IS!! I would tell her to give him all the water he would like but hold off on his food for the moment. Take him to a vet and have him checked out. Not only will they be able to set her mind at ease but can tell her how to fix the problem, and if her cat is anything like mine the most important in his mind WHEN HE CAN HAVE HIS FOOD BACK! (LOL)

Her cat has an ulcer in the bowels and needs a careful diet. No more rich cat food from a tin, but carefully home prepared foods that I doubt he will like so much but will be better for him. The vet will be able to give you more info on that. Also probably some medication as I'm sure he will have a tummy ache. Codiene is best for humans who have stomache problems, so I guess he will be prescribes a similar drug.

He could have a tumor, he could have eaten something that is causing damage, but basically he is bleeding internally somewhere.
If it is only in the stool and not continuously coming out, then MAYBE waiting will be OK, but you should likely get him to the vet hospital ASAP. She risks him dying if she does not.
Maybe find someone else who can take the cat in for her, or see if she can get off work - she can call it a family emergency- cause it is.

Could be a kidney problem. Get the cat to a different vet then, one that cares. I've had the same vet for 20 years and even if they were swamped they'd squeeze me in. Unless you're in a one vet town, go soon.

Who knows what's wrong. It could be something terrible or it could be something minor. Get her to a medical building as soon as possible. Until then, keep the cat on medicine, eating, and keep it hidrated. Hope your cat feels alot better soon. Tell her I hope she's feeling alright!! GOOD LUCK!! =D

How much blood? I would suspect worms but it would probably be obvious if that was the case.
If it is a small, insignificant amount, I wouldn't do anything. If its a lot, it could be something serious.

Might have kidney problems, or a urinary infection, bladder infection.
"Occasional blood in the stool can be normal, indicative of minor lower intestinal irritation. Excessive bleeding indicates more severe irritation. Parasites, cancers, infections and intestinal damage can cause diarrhea, mucus and blood. If you noticed the blood only once, and all else seems fine, you may only want to take a stool sample to your veterinarian to have checked for parasites. If it keeps occurring, or if she bleeds a lot, set an appointment with the doctor"

maybe your sister's cats ate something that causes the abnormality in his stool. check for your nearest vet outder hope that hell be fine.
