I have no clue! NEVER would be the nice answer. But, I guess you cant put an age on maturity! I need to know that I have done the best I could to make sure I have trained them to make good decisions. And, I need to trust who they are going to be with! So, as a rule, I thought of, I would tell my daughters, that her prospect, needs to come to the house at least 3 times and have dinner with the family. (that should weed out the ones with alterior motives), and then they can go somewhere together. They have to come to family activities, and for each date, they have to spend a night with the family. You wanna go to the movies Friday? Sure, go next friday and this friday he can come over here, and play board games. And no parties! Give and take. I think that should filter the ones who are just after my daughters underwear out!! Oh, and only one night out per week!!! Friday or Saturday, no more!

I'm almost 15, and my mom hasn't really brought it up, but i think she would be ok with it at my age. I think it really depends on how the kid can handle it. If they let dating take over their life, then thats a no. But if they can juggle dating and school and home responsibilities, then they are ready for it.
One thing all parents should know though, if your kid has asked you if they could date and you said no, there is a good chance that if they really like a certain girl/guy, they will date them behind your back. So don't be surprised.

My kids are 6 and 2 and I have time to think that over but I would probably go with the rule my parents set for me. My first date I was 15 but my parents dropped me off and picked me up after the movie. I wasn't allowed to go on a "car date" with the guy picking me up in his car until I was 16.

when they're not KIDS anymore!

i'm not even a parent but that's the challenge i've set my sisters. I'm the eldest brother with three sisters below me & I just tell them that I feel i need to be involved because if anything happens (and it has) it's me that they'll come to first (which they did) and if anything permanent happens (like they get hurt or pregnant or whatever (which it has with their friends) it's me that'll have to deal with that financially and otherwise.

Parents have responsibility up to a point, is my opinion. When it comes to these kinds of things their views are quite obvious: they want their kids to get through education first whether they can admit/enforce that or not. Despite the parent's opinion though, they're going to retire and possibly go away.

In the long term it's the siblings that will support each other in later life, therefore they desearve a say in the relationship discussions that people have between families. Boyfriends are not guaranteed to stay with you for the rest of your life. Siblings are more guaranteed to do this: therefore they should be allowed to have a say.

My parents have left it all to me but they've left their wishes clear they want my sisters to hae boyfriends after university when they're guaranteed to be able to look after themselves and pick good quality guys to go out with, not just everyday riff raff that you can't do anything or go anywhere with because moneys' so short: that's their opinion not mine, although I do see their point too and to SOME extent I can agree.

None of us were allowed to date before we were 18, UNLESS mom knew the person, new the parents, trusted the person, and we were supervised at all times.

Usually that happened at 16. But we certainly werent allowed to go anywhere alone.

We will do the same for our son.

Why on earth would you allow a 16year old, or anyone under 18 to date... dating is for finding a mate so you can settle down an start a family, get married... that sort of thing.

Not somethign a 16 year old is really thinking about, or should be thinking about. All they think about is sex, so why stick them in situations were they could readily make babies.

No thank you.

30. I have 2 daughters. I got pregnant with my oldest when I was 17 by the first guy I was allowed to date. My first boyfriend got me pregnant. 30 is the age he set and seeing how girls are getting pregnant at even younger ages than I was, I think it sounds fair.

I didn't let my daughter date until she was 16 years of age. I do believe she turned out quiet well. She is now 27 and married and has 2 boys.

I am 34 and have 2 children. My son is almost 3 and my daughter almost 2. I'll let them date at the same age my parents let me. Age 13.

I'd love to say when she's 40 but lets face it, hopefully she will mature enough at 15 in groups and 16 on a single date. Don't tell the husband I said that because his little girl is going to be a nun!! LOL!!
